At last month's national HTF meet,...We watched the first 10-15 minutes of the film, up through the black knight sequence...I swear that the first subtitle ("Mønti Pythøn ik den Hølie Grãilen") was on this disc, because we all started reading them aloud as they appeared!
Craig, I don't think it was. The pics posted in this thread jive with what I remember from our short screening. However, it has been ages since I last saw this movie, so I didn't know anything was missing at the time. It seems unlikely that the subtitle was on the preview release and not the final, but who knows...

Bill, as I said, I can't be sure, but I find it hard to believe that no one in the room remarked on the missing subtitle. And I could swear I remember us all starting to read-along with "Mønti Pythøn ik den Hølie Grãilen".
Who knows? Memory is a tricky thing.

thedigitalbits.com says that it will be corrected
And just a quick update - we've heard back from Columbia TriStar about Holy Grail. They're working to correct the subtitle problems now and will replace the defective discs (no details are available yet). They're also looking into the missing title graphic.

Got a reply from Python Online.
Hi Shayne,
Thanks for the mail and I'll pass on what I know now, which isn't much.
News to date about the Holy Grail DVD glitches: Mr. Goldstone is having a
meeting with Sony in the next day or two to discuss the concerns raised by
the feedback I have received from the various forums around the net.
So you can be sure that your concerns have been heard and something is being
done about it. I know it is not much in the way of good news right now, but
it is a start. Feel free to pass this on to all.
I'm keeping an eye on the HTF, and I will get back to you all when I get a
result.
Best regards,
Darryn Hall www.pythonline.com

Columbia also replied today (very politely) to the letter I wrote them on Tuesday:
From: CTHV_Customer_Service
To: Douglas Bailey

Subject: Re: _Holy Grail_ DVD problems
CTHE is aware of this problem and is working on its resolution. You will be contacted as soon as there is a resolution. Apologies for any inconvenience regarding this title.
Thank you.

Good for them: that's real customer service, and I appreciate it.

Columbia TriStar also handled the error on Leon: The Professional quite well. The only thing that's too bad is that I have to mail my disc in to them. I only live a few miles away and would love to just walk it up to them and get handed a replacement...

And here's the answer: another e-mail from CTHV:

Subject: Monty Python DVD

This is admirable response time on Columbia's part: not only are they doing the right thing, they're doing it quickly. I'm impressed.

Glad to see they've acknowledged the problem and are going about fixing it. I just hope they are fixing both the "random" subtitling authoring error as well as the missing "Mønti Pythøn ik den Hølie Grãilen" subtitle.

Do anyone know if Columbia has put any sort of indication on the package of subsequent pressings of HOLY GRAIL to distinguish it from the bad first pressing? I really want to buy this, but I want it right the first time; I don't want to have to schlep the disc in the mail and wait. Meanwhile, most retailers have no idea what I'm talking about regarding this technical error; they look at me as if, well, I were saying "Ni" to them.

Could I perhaps order this directly from Columbia just to be sure? Do they have a "studio store" that will guarantee me a good copy?
