The latest disaster: the terrific Chinese film THE KING OF MASKS, for which they've included a 1.85:1 trailer, is presented PAN AND SCAN!!! This is a first for them when it comes to foreign language films, but I'm sure not the last. I think Columbia is now the forerunner of f**king up their DVD's with pan and scan (they refer to it as "full screen" on their cover) transfers. THEY SO EASILY COULD HAVE PUT BOTH VERSIONS ON THIS DISC!!! They used it. Whatever happened to dual format DVD's on non-special editions? God, this pisses me off. I guess I will just do my own personal little thing and boycott Columbia.

Yellow subs are a good thing, Columbia just chooses a bad font and kerning

Didn't they also do SCENT OF GREEN PAPAYA? That's fullscreen as well.

    Why, Columbia, why?

Dick, why don't you post this in the ongoing thread about Columbia's P&S atrocities, so it can be added to the master list?

I wholeheartedly agree. Yellow subtitles distort the color palette of the film and are no longer necessary for white backgrounds since most electronic fonts nowadays have a dark border that allows them to be clearly distinguished from the film. In addition, for me, they make a film look like the poorer video version of the film, instead of what one sees in a theater.

And I agree with Jeff that CTS uses an ugly font to boot.
