Hey, I was just wanting to start a post in hopes that someone from Columbia will glance at the board and (hopefully) see that a bunch of us really want to see this long out of print slasher movie from the 80's re-released and restored to it's original uncut glory. Commentary with the director and actors would be nice, but not mandatory. Just any deleted scenes and all the uncut scenes intact.
Is anybody with me? I know a lot of you out there love this mini 80's slasher classic. So let your voices be heard and maybe we can make a difference!
Please, Columbia...release HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME uncut on DVD! :)

I'm with you. I'd definitely buy HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME in its uncut form. Although I have the Japanese LD, I haven't watched this film in a very long time; I had completely forgotten about it until you mentioned it. An uncut DVD is most certainly in order.

I'll buy that too, but what exactly was cut from the North American release?
I remember reading in Fangoria many moons ago (showing my age now!) that after a few days of release it suddenly got milder after precuts.
I own a Greek original tape & wonder if it really is longer than your version?
Ciao Simon.

Well i don't know exactly how much was cut...there were a couple scenes that stood out & where obviously censored
+++++SPOILERS******
When that one guy gets pulled into his dirt bike wheel & gets grinded. It imediatlely cuts to the end of the scene and you can see aton of grue splattered all over the camera.
Also when that girls dad,forgot his name,but the father or relative??(been awhile since i saw it) of the main charecter. He gets beaten/killed with a fire poker and again abruptly cuts to the aftermath of the scene and the room is covered with blood.
++++END OF SPOILERS+++++
There may be more,actually i'm sure there are since the MPAA really started cracking down on horror in 1981 (F13th 2,My Bloody Valentine,The Burning ect).

Now that I've heard that this film is still at Columbia, I felt it was time to bump this petition back to the top in hopes that a lot more people will take the time to sign and tell Columbia that we want this movie out on DVD Uncut.
Columbia probably won't license it out to anybody like Anchor Bay, so our only hope is to collect a lot of names and petition Columbia.
So, come on guys and gals...who's with me?? :)

"Happy Birthday To Me" would be great on DVD. Please consider releasing it, Columbia. It hasn't been in print for a long time on VHS either. An uncut version would be even greater.

I finally saw this film last night in a total blur on VHS last night (I know, the horror! :)) and I definitely enjoyed it! This is one of the most recognized slashers of the 80's, and I am sure a fall release of this DVD would really cash in with horror fans. Even if only a bare bones disc, I would gladly pick it up as long as it is presented in anamorphic widescreen with decent audio. A commentary would be great though, seeing as this is probably the only occasion that an Oscar nominated director decided to helm a low-grade slasher flick!

Yes I'm all for any kind of dvd release for this great 80's slasher flick.....hopefully soon cuz I don't know how much longer my vhs copy will hold up! Oh and one more thing....PLEASE Columbia use the original theater poster art...this is one of the all-time classic movie posters and it would be shameful to alter it in any way....Thanks!

YES!!! Happy Birthday to Me is an excellent film that must be released on DVD, preferably as a special edition. Do it!

Ah, the memories. It seems there are more slasher flicks than I remember. DVD? Bring it on! Maybe a deluxe tin can include a collector's shishkabob kit.

I got an e-mail back from Columbia. They say there are no current plans for releasing Happy Birthday to Me next year.
We shouldn't give up though. At least we know that they still have the film.

My friend who owns Lucky 13, enquired about obtaining the rights to HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME on DVD and Columbia said no.
So they must want to release it there self sooner or later !

Ricky

Darn it....Happy Birthday to Me is such a GOOD slasher film. Agreed on the swell poster art--I just bought the poster off eBay for $2.99! Now if I only had the movie to show.....
