Well it looks like the free agent season has kicked into high gear today. The Avs signed former line mates Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne. This is great news to me as I am a huge Avs fan. However, it suprises me they didn't lock up a veteran goalie first. Hopefully that will be happening very shortly.

Yeah, so much for this being the year of fiscal restraint. [IMG]
I think we're in for a very long lockout next year.

Look for Curtis Joseph to be dealt to the Avs shortly as they have re-signed Dominic Hasek. Who is going to play next season and even Detroit can't afford 2 8million dollar goalies.

As much as I would like to see Cujo come to Colorado, I just don't think it will happen. Though the rivaly has died down a bit the past few years, Colorado and Detroit really don't like each other. I can't see Cujo ending up with Detroit's most hated rival.

Colorado swung an incredible deal, getting Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne for a combined $7 million for just one season each. Kariya took a salary of only $1.2 million. Since the Avs just got rid of Patrick Roy's $8 million salary, they are still ahead. The Avs general manager made one hell of a deal.

The Wings handed over a lot more money to Darien Hatcher -- $6 million per year for 5 years.

the wings said that joseph would waive his no trade clause, he would accept a trade to the rangers. let him go, overpaid, overrated. i'm a huge wings fan, so i almost shit my pants when i saw who the avalanche signed today. why cant the ducks get guys like that?

Why don't they just give the Avs the cup tomorrow?

Joseph is a good goalie, but the reason he makes all those flashy highlight reel saves is because he's not great at handling and containing the puck.

Those aren't big names. Englebert Humperdinck is a big name. [IMG]

I don't see why Kariya would go for such a relatively small contract with another team when he's pretty much been the heart and soul of the Ducks since their inception and they came so close this season.

Yeah Colorado is looking like the early favorite for the cup again...providing they get a goalie. Detorit may not want to trade to colorado but cujo might end up there regardless...colorado can now afford to trade someone for him if need be and still have a deeeeeeeeeeep team.

IMO, Kariya should have signed for more $$$ while the agreement is in the players' favour. The next agreement will NOT likely be in the players' favour as much as the current one. As a result, the players' salaries will and should be a lot less than what they are now. A salary cap is very probable even if the players are dead against it. A cap is the only way that the NHL is to survive in the long term IMO. In other words, the gravy train for the players is soon coming to an end.

IMO, Kariya is not worth $10 million a year. Based on the current market, he may be worth $6 million a year which I had heard what he was recently offered by the Ducks.
