I'm a coffee addict and when I go out sometimes I like to have a coffee drink with a bit of alchol mixed in. I'm wanting to make some of my own and was wondering what you like to use? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Isn't this a bit off topic for this particular forum? Well, more than a bit. Moderators?

Black coffee with some Amaretto is my favorite.

Since I don't drink coffee, I'm wondering what effect this combination has on the body.

Does simulaneously intaking a stimulant (caffeine) and alcohol (depressant) cancel each other out?

I usually just go for the straight Kahlua.

Strange timing. I just read in the paper last night about college kids mixing the sports drinks (heavy on the caffeine) with alcohol. They stated that they get more drunk because the caffeine helps keep them energized, so effect wise, they do cancel each other out. You just have to realize that you are more drunk them you seem to be I guess.

My traditional Christmas Eve drink is a big mug of strong coffee with a shot of Makers Mark bourbon in it. Coffee also goes well with Irish Whiskey, Sambuca (add three whole beans), brandy, or any full flavored, non-fruit, non-candy cordial - amaretto, anisette, Benedictine etc. is good, but Chambord, Schnapps and (this is only my opinion) Grand Marnière in coffee is blech.

Note: My spelling of liquors is short circuited in my brain, forgive the attempts at spell check.:b

Coffee liquer (Kahlua, Starbucks, etc.) or Irish Cream (Baileys, stearbucks, etc.) are obvious, but I like Southern Comfort & Coffee.

Caffeine won't help depression, so I would assume that mixing the two won't cancel each other out.

My question would actually be, do people actually drink enough alcoholic coffee to get that bombed? [IMG]

Actually, this topic is funny because I was just talking to a co-worker about this and he was mentioning the time he "went around the world" with alcoholic coffee's.

I don't even want to imagine that! [IMG]

Try some mexican coffee with a little tequila in it. Black coffee without cream/sugar is not as good IME. Believe it or not it makes one heck of a brunch item(!)

    cheers,
    Pete

LOL, that's exactly what I thought.

So I'm a newbie to the coffee alcohol thing so I thought I'd see what opinions I could get. Thanks for the input.

I have a tough time with alcoholic coffee. The alcohol gets into the steam and I started chocking on it as I am drinking it.

Actually, what I used to do was put alcohol in my hot chocolate. Damn! I wish I could remember what I used, but it was good!

For Hot Chocolate, may I suggest Godiva liquer and a dash of Stoli Cinnamon vodka?

I don’t know if you read posts in After Hours very often Dave, but we have a thread (to which I am a proud contributor) on nothing but beer. We have had threads on whisky, food (with wine combinations), queries about wine, dinning threads (again with wine suggestions).

I really can’t tell if your post is serious or not, but if it is you should report the thread to the moderators. While I’m pretty sure of their response, one never knows until one tries.
On topic, I prefer an after dinner drink with my coffee, not in it—but I do know that coffee with alcohol is very popular.

I particularly love a good cognac with coffee, as well as some of the sweeter libations such as Grande Mariner and I also like a sambuca (agreeing with Jeff in adding 3 beans).

Since moving to the home of tequila (a product of Jalisco), I’ve found some great aged tequilas that also make fine after dinner drinks (again on the side, not in coffee).

[IMG] As I recall, Dome did bring up Bourbon (whiskey).

And there was at least one on the product of Scotland (properly spelled whisky).

Either way its spelled, I like the product. [IMG]

Actually Lew, I brought up Bourbon. I'm also partial to a good single malt scotch whisky. Either way it's spelled for me too.
