The guy at the sony store sold me a high definition video RCA cable instead of a normal coaxial digital cable because it was less expensive, but I don't get any sound at all.

It is connected from SPDIF on my video card to COAX on the recevier, I set the DVD software to use the digital output, set the receiver on DVD/Coax and can't hear anything.

What could be wrong?

Thanks

What operating system are you using??
PS: I think this would be better answered in the Computers and HTPC section. :)

I'm using windows XP, I tested the receiver with my dad's DVD player and it works by coax so the problem must be on my PC.

Thanks

I tried another DVD and the multichanell decoding LED on the receiver now flashes and the display show it's detecting a DD signal, but it just flashes on and off with no sound.

Yes, I know it sounds weird but I have the ATI AIW 8500DV and it has an SPDIF audio output.
