Newby here with a quick question...

Can someone what a coaxial audio output is used for on a receiver and what I would hook it up to? I noticed that many receivers (denon, yamaha) don't have this option while others have two (harman, pioneer elite, b&k) and most have one.

All the current AV receivers have a coaxial-digital input so you can feed it from a DVD player/CD player/transport.

Some people like to use an outboard processor, or a external digital recorder. (Personal Video Recorder, DVhs tape units). These newer devices accept digital inputs for the audio. So some receivers offer this so you dont have to re-cable if you want to record something rather than simply watch it.
