And from looks of trailer, directly related to first Cloverfield (though that could just be clever marketing)

I was caught completely by surprise. Didn't think to rewind it, is it a series?

It is a movie, it was supposed to come out in a couple of months but Paramount apparently weren't happy with it so they sold it to Netflix.

I liked both movies, even though they were completely different takes on it. Didn't see the trailer for 3 but I'll definitely check it out!

I liked the first two films. It's a shame that they're going the made-for-TV-movie route for the third.

I wouldn't exactly call films on Netflix "made for tv". When I think made for tv movie, its generally terrible. And the Netflix customer base is pretty large, last I saw was 117 million.

It wasn’t made for tv tho. I think Netflix wanted a high profile type film.

First I’ve heard that Paramount wasn’t happy. Do you have a link for that ?

"The culling of Paramount’s release slate is being spearheaded by chairman Jim Gianopulos, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. The exec took over the reins last spring, watching the movies he had inherited and making some hard choices.

“He sat down and looked at what is theatrical, what is not in this day and age,” says one source. Certain movies were not making the cut."

"Sources say the movie needed some work, and while Abrams expressed an intent to get down to business in postproduction, it was too little, too late. Several sources suggested that Abrams’ attention may be taken up by his unexpected new assignment, the final installment of the Star Wars Skywalker episodes, which he signed on to in September after the firing of director Colin Trevorrow. "

I would.

To me, a "movie" is something that plays on theatrical screens. A "TV movie" is one that does not.

Sounds like it was planned to be theatrical, so the production values should be better than a TV movie.

Exactly, it was "made for theaters", not "made for TV". It just happens to be released on TV.

I don't disagree with that, and yet, because it won't play in theaters, I can't consider it a theatrical motion picture.
