close encounters

    Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. My search turned up a lot of info about DVD vs LD, 1977 and 1980, etc and so on.

    I just want to know about the current 1-disc and 2-disc versions of close encounters, both of which are labelled 'special edition'. Is this a moulin rouge scenario, wherein the 1-disc is basically Disc 1 of the 2-disc version?

    Yes, the 1-Disc edition is the first disc of the 2-disc set.

    That's correct. And just to clarify, disc two of Close Encounters contained extras, not an alternate version of the movie, so if you get the single disc version you're not missing out on a different cut of the film.
