I had the pleasure of meeting Bill Hunt at the L.A. meet. He is a class individual and this move does not surprise me one bit.
Thanks to everyone for their show of solidarity and support. Together, we will get through these trying times.

I agree it is a nice gesture, but I can't tell you how helpful, for me, it has been to be able to post and read info on this forum.
I hope HTF doesn't follow suite.

I have given serious consideration as to close HTF down or not as Digital Bits, AVS Forum and HTT but decided since many members have used HTF as a way of finding out details about this horrible tragedy I have decided to keep it up and running.
I appreciate the fact that the majority of this membership has been able to keep this on a civil level under this highly emotionally charged event.
I do ask that our entire membership take a moment of silence in your own way in rememberance of those that have lost loved ones or have been effected by this tragedy.

I believe the site closure precedent was set by The Big Picture.
Home Theater Forum is a community. It's hard--if not downright impossible--to shut a community down.

Check out Food Network
HGTV is doing the same thing (but then again, both are owned by the same company and located in NYC).

Thank you for staying open. Yesterday, without this site and other conversational sites like it, I would have been in the dark until I got off work.

Although I agree and supported TDB's closure, I also agree and support HTF's decision to stay open. We are not just a news or commerce site. We are truly a community and I cannot think of anyplace (outside of with my family and friends here in L.A.) that I'd rather spend my time with than with the folks here at HTF.
With wall-to-wall news coverage of the tragedy, it was good to be able to talk about it without having to see the horrific images of the crash over and over again. Man my stomach was turning. I don't think I'll be able to watch another "blow-em-up-action-movie" for a while now that I've had a taste of the real thing.
Thank you Parker and Ron for keeping this community accessible. It has, and continues, to help maintain an ounce of sanity in a world gone a little insane.

Thanks indeed. When all conventional news outlets were unreachable at work yesterday, and we were in fear because (a) our head office is on Long Island, so we know people who live and work in Manhattan, and (b) ourselves work for a US company under Heathrow's landing path and have planes flying low overhead at the best of times, to know what was going on through everyone here was a great relief, even if it was so difficult to even comprehend the information we were getting. Fortunately, everyone we know here was ok.

Parker:
Thank you for not shutting it down. The continueing communication with other HTF members through this has been most comforating and rewarding. This is not a time to stop communicating, but rather a time to increase thoughtful communication.
I believe the HTF stands out, not only with it's continuation as a major communications medium among it's thousands of members, but also stands out with the quality and depth of the posts by so many of the members.
Just my thoughts.
Deane
