Some truly good news - after months of ho-hum release news from most of the major outfits! ClassixFlix is releasing "The Crystal Ball" (1943) and "The Duke of West Point" (1938) on June 15th via their Silver Series DVD line. These will be must purchases for me!

Gary "thanks yet again, ClassicFlix, for providing some great golden age films that are in my wheelhouse - you guys are about the only ones doing that anymore" O.

Gary:

Thanks for the update on ClassicFlix's releases of "The Crystal Ball" and "The Duke of West Point"; I am heartened to hear that they are still carrying the torch in terms of older films and tv series.

I have to admit when I took a quick at your posting's title, I thought for a quick second, "OMG, Gary has a new "Crystal Ball" prediction! LOL! I miss the days on here when ""Crystal Ball" predictions were almost a daily occurrence.

I hope you and your family are doing well, buddy!

Glad you'll be supporting these.

Based on a survey of major and minor labels for the last few years, especially with WB solely focusing on BDs now, we appear to be the last label left who will focus on archive-type releases for single feature films.

We'll be announcing at least 4 more in the coming months, and have options on at least 10 more. If these two and the coming four are supported, we plan to continue with releasing these type of lesser-known films for years to come.

Thanks, David.

For me personally, I'm just happy at the style/genre that you folk are choosing to release. It seems like most labels, when they do dabble in 'golden age' fare go for the pre-code stuff simply because they think there's something titillating about it. Or they go with films that have world-weary or cynical views to them. I'm just ready for some films like the ones you have coming.

Hollywood, between about 1935 to 1955, released so many fun adventure films (think Tarzan or even the Dorothy Lamour sarong films), thrilling yet gentle mysteries (think Charlie Chan), fun and breezy domestic comedies (think Blondie), good-guy/bad-guy westerns (think Roy Rogers) and countless others. Yet the major studios seem to always go for the pre-codes, the dark noirs, the horrors, the psychological or spaghetti westerns, or the melodramas that end on a sad note. It gets old.

So thank you, ClassicFlix. And thank you, David! You guys are the tops in my book!

Gary "keep up the good work - I'm behind you 100%" O.

Thanks, Sean. Wish I had some good "crystal ball" news. But my contacts have mostly dried up. And certain companies I had an "in" with are no longer around (Timeless in particular). Then some of the groups that are still around (like CBS) have all but abandoned their older titles so there's no news to share. It's pretty depressing, sometimes. That's why a group like ClassicFlix ranks so high on my list. They keep delivering the goods! More power to 'em!

Hope you and your family are doing well too, Sean.

Gary "take care, buddy" O.

That's good to know, David.

Is Streamliners Vol. 1 out-of-print? I noticed it missing from your site.

"The Duke Of West Point" is an Edward Small Production. Are any of those other possible titles the Louis Hayward swashbucklers?

David:

Thank you so much for all you and your staff at ClassicFlix do for us fans of older films and television shows, You truly are the "life support" that older films and programs need and for your time and effort in preserving and releasing such content, we are deeply indebted.

Nice news about "The Crystal Ball" and "The Duke of West Point." I hope the latter portends some renewed delving into the Edward Small library. Would love to see "South of Pago Pago" (1940) and "Abroad With Two Yanks" (1944), for example, albeit preferably on blu.

Can't help but echo my friend Gary's take. I often find that the more modest, bread-and-butter type films prove to be better investments for me in terms of dvd/blu purchases, because it's the type of fare I'm more apt to revisit over time.

Thank you so much for supporting our label (including our Silver Series line)!

Yes, Streamliners, Vol. 1 is out of print, but we may have some coming back in stock shortly as we are expecting some returns from our wholesaler.

We actually don't plan to re-press any in our Silver Series line (with the exception of Todd/Kelly which we already have).

OOP titles may show up as MODs later on, or in collections, but the sales numbers don't warrant a full re-press.

Regarding Hayward swashbucklers, we have our eye on two, but haven't licensed them yet. We have optioned the Edward Small produced My Son, My Son! (1940) with Hayward, but it is on the bubble. If these early titles do well, we'll exercise our option on it.

We've inquired about "Abroad", but not Pago Pago.

We'll see what the future holds.

This is an nice surprise - I thought all other ClassicFlix titles were on hold till the "Little Rascals" project was completed.
