Hi David! Love your company! I used to rent from you all, and I have purchased (that I can recall) Merrily We Live, Out of the Blue,(both quite underrated comedies, well worth a chance of a wider audience) Stand-In, The Complete Hal Roach Thelma Todd and Patsy Kelly Comedy Collection, Public Defender and the most recent purchases were International Lady and Young and Willing. Every single one of these releases have been awesome, nicely restored or remastered, save one. Young and Willing. I was really surprised at both the visual quality and especially audio wise, and I just couldn't watch it. Unless there was an accidental release I got, I think some sort of message should be on that release as everything else has clearly been a labor of love, and I've been very happy with my purchases.

The official street date for The Little Rascals - The ClassicFlix Restorations, Volume 4 is January 18th, but for those who purchased the collection at ClassicFlix.com shipments will be going out a week early (today and tomorrow).

The official street date for The Little Rascals - The ClassicFlix Restorations, Volume 4 is in five days (January 18th), but for those who purchased the collection at ClassicFlix.com shipments have already started to go out.

For many, Volume 4 represents the sweet spot for Our Gang as the troupe is overflowing with talent—including the newly added Scotty Beckett—performing in many unforgettable classics like The Kid from Borneo (1933), Hi'-Neighbor! (1934) and Mike Fright (1934).

To go along with the arrival of the collection, we've cut a custom trailer which you can view below.

So,
When will preorders go up for Vol 5

(the Amazon listing is already up - odd that it was before CF's listing).
Yes,

Trying to get a pre-order listing up in a reasonable time is a crap shoot with Bezos.com as it usually takes weeks or months. Vol. 5 unexpectedly was listed in 2 days. It's also up on other retail sites.

We'll be announcing and having it for pre-order at ClassicFlix.com in the next week or two.

Meanwhile, here is the artwork if you haven't seen it...

Here's the artwork and synopsis for the just announced Black Magic (1949).

After watching his gypsy parents executed by hanging for the alleged crime of sorcery, a young Joseph Balsamo is tortured mercilessly for the insolence of objecting to his parents’ conviction. After a narrow escape from his captors, he vows revenge on the nobleman who sentenced his parents to death.

Having honed his skills as a charmer through his teen years and into adulthood, Joseph (Orson Welles) now dons the name Cagliostro and becomes a famous sorcerer throughout Europe earning wealth, fame and privilege. His misadventures culminate in a bit of palace intrigue with a plot against Queen Marie Antoinette (Nancy Guild)—whose exact double is under Cagliostro’s spell and is helpless to be his instrument in usurping the throne of France.

Despite having helmed such cinematic triumphs as Citizen Kane and The Magnificent Ambersons, the legendary Orson Welles often had trouble in acquiring directorial assignments throughout his career. Many of Welles’ film projects were independent ones—financed by acting he did in other directors’ pictures. The 1949 production of Black Magic is just such an assignment as Welles used the proceeds to make his version of Shakespeare’s Othello (1951).

An adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas novel Joseph Balsamo which tells the story of the 18th century sorcerer Cagliostro, Magic is directed by Gregory Ratoff and features a bravura performance of villainy from Welles, with excellent support from Guild, Stephen Bekassy and Akim Tamiroff (who would later appear with Welles in the director’s classic Touch of Evil).

Frank Latimore, Valentina Cortese and Margot Grahame are also featured, with future Perry Mason star Raymond Burr appearing at the film’s beginning as Alexandre Dumas’ son with Berry Kroeger as the senior Dumas.

I preordered this a while back and will be thrilled to see this classic film, and what you were able to do, in restoring it. After many "very poor" editions, mostly bad burned copies, I did find the first reworked/upgraded DVD release from Hens Tooth Video in the early 2000s. They did a nice job, with what they had. Compaired to the burned 3rd gen discs this was pretty amazing. Because the film is so darkly lit, those old burn copies were vertually unwatchable, even worse that Youtube...and that's saying something. At lease with Hens Tooth there was a decent gray scale and contract balence.
I'm hoping with this new release that it will be an additional upgrade from the HTV edition. Thanks so much David, for you and your talented crew for taking on this difficult yet rewarding project!! I can't wait to see what you were able to do with it!!

Thanks for your continued support.

Our restoration of Black Magic is a definite upgrade. We'll be posting a trailer in the next week or so on it and you'll be able to see for yourself.

While there were some challenges with the elements (warping and baked-in deterioration), most of the film's presentation is eye-poppingly sharp and you will be very pleased with it's picture quality.

I was starting to panic, as I hadn't gotten a shipping notice yet. But I realized that I'd ordered it along with Black Magic, so it won't being shipping until the latter is ready to go.:(

I've been off the grid for a while, but I'm glad to see there's a general CF thread going here now. I've been trying to keep up with the CF releases. Still need to order O. Henry Playhouse v.2 (I've got v.1 coming with LR v.4 and BM) and The Abbott and Costello Show S1, though.

Volume 4 arrived today :D and waiting for that pre-order to go up for Volume 5. And of course the rest.

I know when this was originally set up as a crowdfunded project they had mentioned possibly looking at doing a set of the Pathé /Roach Silent Comedies as well depending on availability. I hope that something can be done on that front as well, just if to get the chance to see the original gang releases 100 years after the start of the group. 1922-2022, and still just as endearing as ever.

We're test scanning some Pathe and Roach silents right now.

Only about 15 exist on 35mm that we know of. Almost all exist on 16mm, but those wouldn't be suitable for Blu-ray release.

We'll keep you posted.
