Anthony Mann's "Man of the West' and Samuel Fuller's "40
Guns" are now available.

As I recall, Peter Fitzgerald once asked Warner during a
chat about Mann's film, but the response was lukewarm
at best, and several years have since passed without
a hint of a U.S. release. Thus, for me, I thought
the purchase of French release was justified.

I understand the transfer of Man of the West is not anamorphic; in the UK Optimum are set to release 40 Guns, Young Mr Lincoln & Drums Along The Mohawk

Incidentally in France, you'll also find a special edition of Howard Hawks Big Sky and, if you're into classic films, a whole slew of classic movies; The Lost Patrol, The Informer, Mary Queen of Scots, etc., etc. do a search at www.amazon.fr for Éditions Montparnasse.

"...Is it out in France?"
...indeed it is, under its alternate title Mary Of Scotland...

...FYI: the 2-disc SE of "The Big Sky" includes the "short" version (120 minutes, without French subs) and the "long" version (136 minutes, with French subs)...

. . . . . .

Ohh ok, I thought it was "Mary Queen of Scots" with Vanessa Redgrave, Glenda Jackson and Timothy Dalton.
Well I hope someday that will be released on DVD.

Does anyone know anything about the French (or German) edition of FORTY GUNS?

Thank you.

Just received the French editions of both "Forty Guns" and "Man Of The West."

"Forty Guns" is widescreen 16X9 anamorphic.

"Man Of The West" is non-anamorphic letterbox.

Bothe are nice to have, since they aren't available here in region 1.

Got the UK edition of "Forty Guns" yesterday. Haven't seen it yet but although the cover says it is 4:3 it has actually the correct cinemascope ratio. Haven't test it to see if it's anamorphic though... my TV is rather small so I usually don't bother.

I guess Elia Kazan's "Wild River" (not a western, I know) might have the correct ratio as well - if anyone got this one, can they confirm please?

Yes, please, are these Optimum titles LBX? Not so concerned w/ 16:9 if Wild River is correct aspect ratio . . .
