Am I the only one who thinks the punishment doesn't fit the crime here?

Come on, she killed a cheating husband, how many time has that happened in history? She is not a murderer that needs to be isolated! I'm willing to bet she had an impeccable criminal record up until now, is mentally sound, and is a very contributing member to the society judging by her taste in cars.

This court judgment didn’t send a very good message to everybody’s view on value of marriage.

Just because a husband cheats does not mean the wife has the right to kill him!

Two wrongs to do not make a right.

Mike, I'm with you. I would have put it under a crime of passion, unless she talked about doing this before (and with my luck, she did). I thought that at the worst she'd get involuntary manslaughter, but maybe it's just Texas.

I did notice that they didn't say murder one or murder two. Are there such catagories in Texas, or did they lump them all together?

I'm still trying to figure out what I would have given her as a sentence, but if I could/would have she would have gotten involuntary manslaughter, and the sentence terms are different. Maybe 5 years probation?

I do know that if was walking and I saw her car, I'd run like hell. [IMG]

She took another person's life, who gave her that right to do so?

I could see it being a "crime of passion" had she just hit him the one time. When she hit him the second and third time, I lost any sympathy for her because that just goes to show she was trying to kill him. Hell had she hit him and taken off she probably could have gotten away with saying he just got in her way when she was storming off.

    Three times. THREE TIMES!

Although, I have to say- I think they both got what they deserved. Karma is a b**ch.

Soneone wrote in a letter to Bill O'Rielly's show, basically saying that if she got off, the streets would be littered with murdered husbands (and wives). My date last night said she should have hit his where it really hurts: his wallet, with a divorce. 20 yars may be steep, but you have to set an example, make a statement that this is NOT acceptable in our society.

Ok, don't climb all over my case about this. We're just debating this. I heard that she did stop and check on him, and he was still alive. The meaning being, yes, she did intend to harm him, and (if) he was still alive when she finished, then she gave him some pain. That was her intention.

Did I get that right? Did he die later in the hospital, or on the scene?

I have to assume this is subtle humour since no one could
    be this deluded:

"Am I the only one who thinks the punishment doesn't fit the crime here?

I'm willing to bet she had an impeccable criminal record up until now, is mentally sound, and is a very contributing member to the society judging by her taste in cars.

It won't be long before people use the recent findings in neuroscience to absolve themselves of guilt.

"It wasn't my fault! My brain was wired the wrong way, causing me to stab her 50 times. Look, here's the MRI scan showing that I was not responsible for my actions, your honor."

I'm sure this has already happened.

She repeatedly ran her husband over with her car while her daughter witnessed the entire thing.

Some of you people.. not going to finish this sentence to prevent the lock or the ban, but figure it out for yourselves.

She deserved more time than she got, I hope she serves every day of those 20 years and then some.

And if a man killed his wife because she was (or he thought she was) cheating, everyone would be screaming for him to be locked away for life.

    Why the double standard?

    Three times.

Her stepdaughter, his daughter, in the car with her. Saw the whole thing, saw her Dad's eyes, saw her stepmom drive over her father three times...

What kind of lifelong problems did she induce into her child at the time? That kid will be in therapy for ages. Good thing they're reasonably wealthy; if they weren't that level of help would not be readily available.

Clara Harris got less than she deserved. Life would be more appropriate, perhaps even more than that.

    IMHO, of course.
