I'am looking for a list of Movies that have a Civil War Back drop/story in a foreign country. Let's skip Viet Nam and Korea. Something where there is a Western/American influence.

Something like For Who the Bell Tolls, or The Year of Living Dangerously. Thanx.

Archangel (available on "The Guy Maddin Collection" DVD) (Russia)
    Dr. Zhivago (Russia)
    Vacas (Spain)
    The Leopard (Italy)
    Senso (Italy)
    Shame (Sweden, fiction)
    Bloody Sunday (Ireland)

and since George listed Robin Hood, one could also list movies like Ivanhoe and any of the versions of Richard III.

I could name many Japanese movies but you said you wanted a Western angle.

If you're willing to accept a civil war that never quite happened, there's also The Tailor of Panama. [IMG]

"Under Fire" is an underrated film about journalists in war-torn Nicaragua in the early-80s.

Also, check out Oliver Stone's "Salvador".

    A few more at random:

Battle of Algiers—shows the Algerian revolution (against the French) from both sides.

October—the Russian revolution (another by Sergei Eisenstein and more directly connected with a ‘civil war’ than ‘Potemkin’.

Salvatore Giuliano—this begins as a civil revolt—it is about immediate post-war Sicily (and a bit before).

A Tale of Two Cities—there are several adaptations of Dickens’ classic work (French Revolution).

A stunning film, I wish it was given special edition treatment.

How about To Kill a King it didn't do great business but the cast list is fantastic.
