Well, the original Blu release already contains a commentary and documentary. What can Shout! add other than, perhaps, a trailer and new commentary and some scattered interviews. I can't see going for this.

Shout might have been willing to commission a new scan of the 35mm negative and/or interpositive, or might have done additional cleanup on the existing master - but I'm pretty satisfied with the disc I already have from MGM via Fox. I may look into this, but at this point, a combo pack with both films in the series would have more value to me. (I liked the combo that Shout did with both Bill & Ted films.)

If they are planning on new interviews and commentaries, and a new 4k scan I may bite. But the current version is quite acceptable.

ALL-TIME COMEDY CLASSIC AS COWBOYS,
CAREERS AND MID-LIFE CRISES COLLIDE IN
A LOADED BLU-RAY EDITION

CITY SLICKERS: COLLECTOR'S EDITION

Comic geniuses Billy Crystal, Bruno Kirby, Daniel Stern and Oscar®-winner
Jack Palance star in this uproarious 1991 buddy comedy, reissued by

This October, Shout! Factory invites home audiences to saddle up for comedy gold with CITY SLICKERS: COLLECTOR'S EDITION. Riding into retail on a treasure-laden Blu-ray release, this all-time comedy classic receives special Shout Select treatment with an all-new 4K HD scan, and extras that include exclusive audio commentaries, specially-created featurettes including "Back In The Saddle: City Slickers Revisited" and deleted scenes. Pre-order is available now at ShoutFactory.com.
This insightful, delightful comedy about cowboys, careers and midlife crises stars Billy Crystal as thirty-nine-year-old New Yorker Mitch Robbins, who's tired of his job and bored with his life. So he and his two best friends (Bruno Kirby and Daniel Stern) trade their briefcases for saddlebags and set out to find freedom and adventure herding cattle under the wide New Mexico sky. But what they discover instead is scorching sun, sore backsides ... and more about themselves and each other than they ever thought possible. During its theatrical release, Rita Kempley of The Washington Post said that the comedy was a "sentimental, big-laughs western about life going on after thirtysomething", and Jeff Menell of The Hollywood Reporter called it "one cattle drive you won't want to miss". Aside from the trio of fish-out-of-water urbanites, CITY SLICKERS also starred the inimitable Jack Palance, who captured the Oscar®for Best Supporting Actor for his role as leathery trail boss, Curly.
Consumer interested in roping the Blu-ray prior to its release are invited to order the collector's edition directly from shoutfactory.com; it will ship two weeks early and, while supplies last, the order will include a free 18x24 rolled poster featuring brand new artwork.

Jack Palance is included in the front cover art but not credited on the cover? Weird.

And he won the Oscar for this role!!

I know! Seems like a major screw up to me.

Crystal/Stern/Kirby is how the original movie posters were billed.

As far as I can tell, Crystal/Stern/Kirby is how every home video release has been billed.

Palance got "top line" billing for the sequel, but I couldn't find any posters/covers for the original that list him above the line.

So I wouldn't bust on Shout for this - they're following the same billing that's been used for decades!

It's still unusual. Billing is changed on home video releases all of the time, especially in cases like this.

For all we know, it's contractually obligated for all releases of this film to have that billing.

In this case, adding Palance to the "over the line" billing would've only been canny marketing in 1992 when he regained fame post-Oscars.

Putting Palance's name with the other 3 isn't gonna sell any extra copies in 2018.

People here usually gripe when cover art deviates from the original - now we're made that they kept the billing consistent?

I would also guess that it's a contractual obligation thing. I had similar cases when I worked at a small home video label about a hundred years ago.

And to give another example, over on the Kino thread, the Kino Insider mentioned that they were contractually obligated to use an odd Selznick credit on the front cover for a particular release - nevermind that the film in question is 80 years old!

I doubt Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern or Bruno Kirby's estate would sue if it was changed, but why take the chance? The cost of defending that lawsuit, or even just the cost of redoing the packaging, could easily wipe out the profits the release could generate.

Exactly. And who actually thinks that Palance's name over the title will sell any Blu-rays?

Seeing the same credits that've been on the movie for 27 years referred to as a "major screwup" perplexes me.

As I noted earlier, the time to change the credits would've been spring 1992 to hype "OSCAR-WINNER JACK PALANCE!!!" not fall 2018...

What I would really like to see as an extra (and I realize that from a rights perspective, it may never be possible) is the Oscars footage.
Two of the most famous moments from any Oscar Broadcast are related to this film.

The cut-off acceptance speech, and the pushups.
