I had some questions about the Cirrus Extra Surround mode on the Outlaw 950 and I'm hoping some of the beta testers can help out. Sorry if these questions were answered in the lost threads but I don't think they were.
First of all, is CES it's own surround mode or is it an add-on mode that can be placed on top of DPL2/DD/DTS? From what I can tell, it seems to be an add-on to convert those modes from 5.1 to 6/7.1, is that correct? If a dvd is EX encoded, does the CES mode do anything different from standard EX processing? Finally, I would like to hear how well the CES mode works on non-EX material. Do the surrounds collapse into the rears or does it distribute the sound somewhat uniformly among all the surrounds? Is it perhaps tunable in this regard? Thanks in advance.

RAF? Merc? I guess the beta testers are too busy listening to their Outlaw 950. [IMG]

For those of you that are interested, I did get the following information from an anonymous benefactor (merc):

And I'll add on to Dzung's question...

It is called "DPL 2-CES", right?

But it *is* using all 5.1 channels of a DD/DTS feed to then get the 6.1/7.1 output?

(In other words, it's *not* just using the L + R stereo feed.)

Kind of a stupid question, but when I hear "DPL" I think of 2 channel Dolby Surround Stereo being turned into 4 discrete channels.

I think the DPL2-CES reference is to something like Logic 7 that works on a variety of analog and digital sources from analog stereo to digital 5.1.

    I could be wrong.
