The colours on the TV display are messed up. In the middle of the screen in a circle, the display is tinted towards a blue and moving out it goes from a green and then to a red. Does anybody know what is the cause of the problem, and what to do about it. Any info is appreciated, thanks.

You're saying that there's a splotch of chroma distortion that spreads out and visits all the tints in the spectrum? Is that correct?

What kinds of speakers are you using—specifically, are they magnetically shielded? (You see where I'm going with this.) Are there other possible sources of magnetic interference near the set? Have you tried repositioning the set?

Yup, that sounds right.

I don't believe it's magnetic interference from speakers because the only ones there are are two floor standers that are positioned far away. The TV itself is 4 years old and then out of the blue, this problem occured.

1. Do you have a mischievous teenager who dismantled a computer hard drive or a loudspeaker, took a magnet (can be extremely strong) out of it, and put it on the TV screen for just half a second? That could permanently damage a direct view tube.

2. Try moving the TV out into the center of the room (in case there is something causing magnetic interference on the other side of the wall or under the floor). Then do normal viewing for about a week. (To speed this up, turn the TV on, wait an hour, turn it off, wait an hour, then repeat about six times. This degausses the picture tube. See if the problem gradually goes away.)

3. Have a serviceman come in to check it out including degaussing the picture tube, he uses a tool that few if any set owners have. If the built in degausser is not working, this service call should fix the problem. The serviceman may also advise you that the tube is damaged perhaps because of #1 above, or perhaps other circuitry has aged and needs to be tweaked.

4. Have you tried to do your own convergence? It is easy to mess things up and then you have to call the serviceman to resurrect things.
