I'm thinking about ordering this. I have read great reviews on this one, but I must admit, I am just getting into foreign film. (just finished The Vanishing which was great!) Does anyone else recommend this film?

Cinema Paradiso is a fantastic film.
It's such a sweet and simple story presented beautifully on film.
It's a very palatable foreign film, even for those who can't stand watching films with subtitles.
    Highly recommended.

Couldn't agree with Marc more, it's an excellent film. I remember before really getting into foreign films watching this one on either Sundance or IFC and was captivated by it. It is a great gateway film to the world of international cinema. I highly recommend it! [IMG]

Do know, though, that a director's cut of CINEMA PARADISO, about an hour longer than the initial release version, is circulating the art house circuit and will likely turn up on DVD. Miramax has a habit of chopping up foreign films for domestic consumption--but no reason why you can't see, or, eventually, own, both.

Yep, just picked up the director's cut in R2 (UK).

Not looked at it yet though. But I couldn't resist, due to all the fabulous reviews.

I've heard of the Director's Cut in theaters, but is there going to be a DVD release?

It's also in Australia and much cheaper than the R2 release.
