And finally this afternoon, Warner Bros has officially announced the DVD release of Chuck Jones: Extremes and In-Betweens, A Life in Animation for October 22nd. This documentary DVD looks back on the life and career of the pioneering animator, and features two of his classic Looney Tunes shorts: Feed the Kitty and Duck Dodgers and the 24 1/2th Century. And as we mentioned in The Rumor Mill recently, we believe this is just the prelude to a larger plan for the Looney Tunes catalog by the studio in 2003 and beyond.
this is fantastic news indeed, bring it on

While flipping around channels last night, I saw a promo for this program on PBS tonight.
    http://www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/
The promo I saw was on the High Definition PBS station and it seemed as if some of the clips were in 16X9 1080i HD and some were letterboxed and windowboxed.

Well, I got this set, and, from what I can tell on my
television set, the two animated shorts Feed The Kitty and Duck Dodgers in the 24 and a 1/2 Century look good and are free from the kind of "restoration" that has angered many a Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs fan.
I noticed that the paint on the cells was uneven, as it would be, and but, at least on my system, I saw what looked like a few compression artifacts here and there. (Noticeable around Marc Anthony's collar a few times.)
What are others' impressions of this DVD?
I was a bit bummed to see that the DVD was presented
widescreen, but that is is not enhanced for widescreen televisions, even though they went out of their way to
windowbox the 1.33:1 animated excerpts included during
the docuementary. (The stand alone shorts are not window-boxed.)
Any thoughts from people with more impressive Home Theaters than mine? (Not a difficult challange!) [IMG]

I got it Tuesday. So far I've only watched the two cartoons, and did so on my smallest screen in the house with a DVD player on it (the one next to this PC!).

My wife and I were both highly impressed and hungered for more Looney Tunes. Didn't notice the compression you mention, but then again it was the small tube. I'll look for it when we watch the whole thing again on the big screen in the main room.

Honestly, I pretty much bought it for the two cartoons. Not that it (and he) isn't interesting, but the whole "Bio of Chuck Jones" is a supplement to me!
