I just heard that Chris Rock will host the Oscars next year. This has me excited......finally someone new(not that Martin or Crystal were bad). But a young, black, GEN-Xer host. It's about time! With Halle winning an Oscar, Denzel getting 2, and up-and-comers such as Latifah, Chris Tucker, Will Smith, Dave Chapelle, Jamie Foxx, and others too numerous to mention, I'm excited.

And yes, I'm white........but the Oscars are almost TOO dignified and still very much older and white....Rock will treat the show with respect but not be bowing at Mr. Oscar's feet. And I'm glad to see him get some recognition....the fact he's hosting says how people feel about him. Everyone's invited now and everybody has good chances to get nominated and win. Looking forward to it.......

First by the title of this thread, I almost thought it was "The Rock" that would be hoasting...which would be the kind of trainwreck that would make me watch the Oscars.

Chris Rock is alright, but its still not must see TV for me.

Chris Rock is funny as a stand-up comedian, but he's average as a host of award shows.

I love Chris Rock and he can be great, but he is inconsistent, and the idea of him being responsible for the entire Oscar broadcast would have me in terror if I was producing the show.

The link I posted was correct since that article is a month and a half old and also states Chris Rock as a host idea.;)

I say, give him a shot. I thought Steve Martin was the best recently, but I didn't like that broadcast too much (he did keep things running well). I'm not a big fan of Crystal or Whoopi. They're both funny people, but I don't like their Oscar shows.

I think it's a bad idea. I like Chris Rock, but the Oscars should keep a sense of dignity. Does everything have to be hip nowadays? I long for the days when Cary Grant, Fred Astaire, Bette Davis, Lucille Ball, etc. were still around at Oscar time.....it just isn't the same anymore. If I want to watch a cool, hip, politically incorrect stand up act, I'll watch the MTV Awards or Comedy Central. I watch the Oscars for the tradition and the class.

That seems like a bit of pre-judgement. I'll wait to see how Rock handles the show before I criticize him for it.

I don't think it's a pre-judgement, rather an informed judgement based on his hosting of other awards shows. Sure, he will probably tone it down a little, but it's doubtful he will completely abandon his style of monologue/stand up material. I'm watching the Oscars regardless, I just don't agree with the choice for host.....that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I think it's a bad move too, not horribly bad, but I feel they could have done better. Dave Chapelle or Chris Tucker are on my list.

I for one will miss Billy. I don't see anyone else doing those movie montages but him.
I agree that the oscars are a class act seen all over the world and merit a classy performer.

I really like Chris Rock, think he's one of the smartest comedians out there, but he seems too young to be hosting something like the Oscars. Or am I just getting too old?:D

Will the 7-second delay be in effect for the Oscar broadcast?

(Thread title amended because I kept thinking people might think "The Rock" was hosting the Oscars).

I do not think this is a good idea.

Just not a fan of the man and do not find him funny.

Why do the Oscars need "funny" anyway
