Yeah, he appeared to be pretty large in the Reservoir Dogs dvd interview extra's.

BTW..if you want to see him in some of his most recent work which was never used, check out American Pie 2 (or American Wedding). He is in some deleted scenes as Stiflers' dad.

That's what I suspect too. But whatever the reason, this is really sad news :frowning: RIP Mr. Penn.

Actually, he was only 40!
Very odd... My fiancee and I just talked about him a few days back. He was a great character actor.
I have a friend who is a producer in LA who thinks he was way into drugs. Shame...

RIP, Mr. Penn

He was a heavy smoker as well from what i've read. Such a shame, he was a great actor, especially in Resevoir Dogs. I just saw him in a rerun of Will & Grace the other day. :frowning:

Actually his last movie premiers tonight at Sundance,. I'm sure they will have some type of ceremony in Park City for him

Such terrible news. Two of my favorite performances of his:

As Tommy Whitewood, the naive half-brother of Brad Whitewood Jr. (Sean Penn) in At Close Range (one of my favorite movies of Sean's too). Tommy (and his friends) tried to be so tough, and wanted to hang with the big boys, but he had no idea who he was dealing with regarding Brad's sociopathic father (Christopher Walken). What a sad and tragic character.

As Kevin Fitzpatrick, in an episode of Chicago Hope called "Life Support." Kevin's brother needs a heart transplant, but when a donor heart becomes available, the doctors choose another patient instead. Kevin, in anguish and crazy worried that his brother might die, takes doctors hostage and demands that they transplant the heart into his bother. When the doctors impress on Kevin that he'll be killing the original transplant patient, he shoots himself in the head so that his brother can have his heart. It was one of the most intense, heartwrenching episodes of television we've ever seen. Penn's performance made you really care for Kevin, and understand why he was doing what he was doing. The shock when he shot himself was horrifying.

RIP Chris. You were good.

Nice Guy: All right, MISTER FUCKING COMPASSION, I will call somebody.
Mr. White: Who?
Nice Guy: ......a fuckin' snakecharmer! Who do you think? I'll call a doctor.

Classic Chris Penn. I miss him already.

When hearing of this, the following song came immediately to mind:

"The Wild Life" by Bananarama

What your mother don't know
She won't mind
Her good advice was a waste of time
You wanna live fast
Cutting it fine
Make hay while the sun shines

No one there to say you're wrong or right
You've waited a lifetime
Burning all your bridges tonight

This is the wild life
It's the wild life
Wild life
This is the wild life
No stone left unturned
Jump in the fire you're gonna get burned
You might lose your way
When you come out to play
The wild life

I may be too young
But I've seen and done
Everything that they say is fun
I gotta find out for myself
In the end there's no one else

Every time I try to win I lose
I'm tired of waiting
Now I'm gonna make my own rules

This is the wild life
It's the wild life
Wild life
This is the wild life
No stone left unturned
Jump in the fire you're gonna get burned
You might lose your way
When you come out to play
The wild life

No one there to say you're wrong or right
You've waited a lifetime
Burning all your bridges tonight

This is the wild life
It's the wild life
Wild life
This is the wild life
No stone left unturned
Jump in the fire you're gonna get burned
You might lose your way
When you come out to play
The wild life

----------

R.I.P Chris Penn.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...

And why the Hell isn't "The Wild Life" on DVD yet?

I remember buying the Wild Life on LD 3 years ago.

I find this rather sad, as I have always wondered why he wasn't in more movies, because he is such a good actor. Now that I saw his filmography, I will certainly check out those movies.

I always liked Chris more than Sean. I'm certainly going to miss him. Wish Quentin had used him in more movies, maybe he would've gotten the auidence his brother does.

R.I.P. Chris, you will be missed.

For what it's worth, yesterday one of my co-workers (an editor) mentioned that he had seen Penn in a Los Feliz bar about two months ago. According to my friend, Penn was loud, drunk, and out of control -- disrupting activity in the bar, even. I thought about that a bit. Kind of lends insight as to the probable cause of his demise. Sad.

Thanks for the link Micheal...

So, it looks like there may be a shot that it was out of Penn's hands. I am not saying he did not do drugs in the past, but it may be something else. It's just a terrible thing, but hopefully this will make other people feel better about the situation.
