I have decided to build a Tempset based sub and am trying to choose a suitable amp, The various Parts Express and similar 250 Watt amps seem to crop up everywhere but I would like to consider something a little better as I can't hear the product until after I have finished building. I like the description of the PE 500 Watt amp but my question is whether the auto on/ off "feature" is actually desirable or will it cause more problems? And is it comparable to the Hypex 200 in real world performance (RMS@ 8Ohms?)

Welcome to the Forum, William!

What do you mean, “more” problems? An auto on/off feature merely shuts off the amplifier when there is a prolonged absence of a signal. It has no affect on sound quality, if that’s what you’re worried about.

Thanks for the reply, I think I'll go for it. I was worried that the auto shut off would do just that, but when a signal does arrive (after the off period) that it would not be ready to receive the signal. I guess that scenario isn't going to happen too often.
