With 5 seasons left to release, I think WB might be rethinking this one.

If we see season 3 this year, I'd be surprised.

Sorry, troops, But Chips won't be seeing a release this year and I think I've had it with studios only releasing a season or two and not finishing releasing the sets. I'm just going to order a copy of those full TV shows that those websites are always advertising ...

It may be bootleg, but, at least I'll receive a copy of the TV series.

I could have sworn I remember David Lambert saying something along the lines that WB was happy with the sales of CHiPs & you could count on the 1 release per year schedule. I don't quite understand the WB if they have decided to not include CHiPs, in there release schedule for 2009.

You have got to be kidding, one season per year. Warner Brothers needs to bump up the release on this series so that they coincide with the rest of their releases. Warner Brother does have a release schedule that averages, on par, about 3 months to six months, depending on the series.

sarcasm alert:

maybe they will really step it up, and give us a 1/2 season every six months
like we're getting with Love Boat...

like my boss used to say to the pizza guy, just cut it in 6 pieces, I can't eat 8...

well, yeah, I was being sarcastic.

I'm just tired of these studios releasing a season or two and then deciding not to release the rest of the series.

If studios keep doing this then they should allow consumers to send them money and have the season sets produced as ordered and mailed out to consumers.

Meaning that if you want, say, The Sentinel Season 2, then you would be able to mail Paramount a check for, say $35, and they manufacture that set and send you a factory sealed copy of Season 2. Meaning that the sets would be produced as money is received for the sets.

Sort of what Warner is doing with movies in their Archive program. Still waiting to hear if WB is going to add any of their tv shows. So far, they haven't.

that would be great.

It makes you wonder if there is a plan to kill dvd's, and replace them with
some other model of distribution. If I were trying to kill dvd, i'd be doing
exactly what's happening now...

a) abandon so many series you don't know if it's worth buying a new release
when it's launched because may never make it through to the end,
b) release cheaper full sets of complete shows after paying a premium for
individual releases,
c) slow the releases with 1/2 season sets that cost more,
d) alter the sets from their original broadcast material,

It's not that I have an issue with b) and c) it's just that they are in reverse
to what should happen. I'll pay a premium to get the full set EARLY,
now it's possible to save money by waiting?? that's a disincentive to buy.

Likewise, we have to pay MORE for half sets that means it takes longer
to get the show? And they wonder why that's an issue for the consumer?
Why not release the full season set and the first half season shortly after?
If people want the full season, they can buy it, and if they want to wait for
half seasons, they could.

it just goes on and on.... you'd think that offering a complete and unaltered
set that that didn't need to be stocked in stores would be an easy thing
for the studios to sell to collectors, even at any price. It amazes me to
think that preparing a show, one season at a time, and parceling out them
over all these releases would be much more expensive in the long run
than just getting the whole show ready from start to finish.

My biggest issue is with c) when shows are split season, I won't buy them. As for releasing the full season, then a half season, Fox did that with The Fall Guy (released the full Season 1 as well as Season 1 Volume 1 &2). What do you think sold better? I don't think anyone bought the volumes, yet the studios haven't learned from it.

If Warner is happy with the sales, why haven't they released any more? It seems to me if Seasons 1&2 sold good enough, then bump them up and release two or three sets per year, make the sales, and get the show finished. By sitting and not releasing anything, they're losing sales. Hell, I could drop dead before the next season comes out!

Because Warner is concentrating on supporting the releases for TV shows that are currently in production and in first-run broadcast.

I will buy split seasons if I really want the show. I don't like it, but what
choice is there if you want to see the show? It's such an intolerable situation
when the studio decides whether or not the show gets more releases, when
fans aren't buying the show because they don't like 1/2 seasons...
If they just released the complete series first...they could do whatever after,
the collector fans wouldn't care after they do their complete set. That's
what WB is doing with Scooby Doo. The Original 1st season came out years
ago, now they're doing single discs of the same content. Even though there
are seasons that haven't been finished (where is RichieRich/Scooby vol 2 & 3?)!
they're going back and re-releasing shows that are already out.

Hey guys,
I am waiting for Season 3 too, as are the folks on the CHiPs fan list I run.
htf_images_smilies_smile.gif

I can tell you for certainty that there is going to be no movie. It's been scrapped by WB. The writers strike pretty much killed it. Larry Wilcox told me himself (he is a friend of mine). He hasn't heard anything about the next season either. It's also about 99% certain Erik Estrada won't be involved anymore. His agent said he "no longer wishes to be associated with the brand and has moved on." So we'll just have to wait and see. I am hoping for a Christmas release!

I doubt that we'll see a release by Christmas especially with the way the economy has been. Since the announced releases we're seeing now are coming in for September releases, there would have been rumored announcements regarding the season 3 release.

My guess is that with the Chips movie being scrapped, that Warner Brothers doesn't consider the DVD releases much of a priority right now. At least we got two whole seasons of the series.

You may be right but I sure hope not. The show still has a large following. Maybe Shout! Factory will get the rights! They saved Adam-12, why not CHiPs?

I've been waiting for the release too. I wasn't too interested in the movie because I figured they would make it a comedy (a weak, stupid comedy) like Starsky & Hutch. I liked that show when I was little, but I hated the movie.

Maybe the movie studios will learn something, the new Star Trek movie was modeled after the show, not made fun of and it was still funny AND a great movie.

I too agree that studios should just release the whole series, with option to buy only by season.

I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for CHiPs Season 3 to be released on DVD, and I'm very annoyed that there has not even been a mention of it anywhere.

Why release Season 1, and Season 2 like clockwork in two consecutive Junes and then nothing?

I am one VERY annoyed CHiPs fan! As someone else said earlier in the thread, no wonder people buy bootleg.

Come on WB - RELEASE IT! (Please?)
