As I sit bored at work, I am wondering if it would be possible to mount a subwoofer (or multiple) in your chimney that would act as an infinite baffle? When you think about it, your chimney is better braced than any enclosure would ever be and the air requirements well, are pretty much infinite. Now I'm not saying I'd try this by any means. I'm just wondering if this would conceptually work. Any takers?

It would radiate the neighborhood with bass, which some people might not like too much.

Seal the top of the chimney, otherwise you have a TL (unless you want to stuff your chimney with PolyFil). Calculate the air space of the chimney. You need a minimum of 4 times the Vas of the driver, 10x is optimum. Should work. I don't think the driver cares what shape the air space is. And you'd better hope you don't have a creosote build-up.

Should work if sealed up. Just remember not to use the fireplace [IMG]

    Tempting, but highly doubtful.[IMG]

AFAIK, most fireplaces in '90s homes lead up to thin, flimsy metal pipe. I think.

Given the shape and size of most flues you'll have a TL not an IB.

This is almost as bad as Brett's pop can speaker idea. That was Brett wasn't it?

I didn't say it was a good idea, just a bored at work thought. Believe me, I've come up with worse.

We know but its fun to theorize how well or poorly it would perform. [IMG]
