I'm going to be in chicago over christmas time. Anyone know any good home theater stores I can visit. I'm going to be near Navy Pier but will probably be down near water tower place and that area a lot. May also be down in the south suburbs one day.

I took it upon myself to try to put together a list of HT joints in Chicago and surrounding burbs. I don't know if I covered them all, and I haven't been to many of them, but here ya go ...

There you go. I suggest calling first to see if they still exist, and see what they carry. And I can second The Little Guys. Also Music in Motion (it's down the street from the Little Guys), and Sythesis Audio ...

The Little Guys is great. It's owned by common folk (not a corporation) and they are very friendly and down to earth. They have some really good prices too.

Mike,

If you are going to be downtown then I would say that the Tweeter store on 900 N. Michigan (Bloomingdale's building) is your best bet. The other store that I would recommend is Audio Consultants on Clark (not far from downtown), they have nice gear (Marantz, Denon, B&W) and two great sound demo rooms. Douglas TV on Lincoln is no longer there (tore down and replaced by condos) but it used to be a great place to find top of the line A/V gear as well as one of the few places to see/demo CRT and other front projection equipment.

Have fun while you are in Chicago and dress warm!

I have known Audio Consultants for some 26 years and think they are great.

Simon, who started the place, was always very welcoming to this scrawny junior high schooler (and sometimes his Dad). I shall never forget this lesson in business.
