I doubt you'll be very happy trying to run that sub without the corresponding Velo amp. From skimming the Secret's review of the SPL1000, it appears the SPL series had some sort of impedance feedback circuit in place of their higher end Servo control system. IOW, one of those connections went to some brains on the amp to analyze and correct what the driver was doing. The Velo amp likely had some major custom EQ built into it as well, to help the driver...there's only so much a 10" driver can do in such a small sealed box without EQ help.

You could experiment with a battery and those leads to try to determine which actually move the cone. How many connections are there...your photos aren't very clear to me as I only see what looks like 3 connections. and it's hard to establish a reference point from photo to photo.

There are three connections coming off the sub. The two tied together show a 5.3 load on the DMM. The other one does nothing. I have no idea what that one does.

The two that show continuity would be the voice coil leads. You should be able to use a battery to determine true polarity.

The third connection would appear to be the sensing lead that went to the original Velo amp. Can you see where it goes under/in the spider? I would guess it has to make contact with the coil somewhere to complete the circuit when sensing impedance. I assume you tried the DMM on all wiring combinations.

Yes I did. I got a DMM and tried everything out. I too assumed that third wire is a sensor for the Velo amp to correct cone movement. That is, I did after reading more in depth about Velo subs

.

Either way, I hooked this puppy up and it sounds very, very nice.
