Hey,
i got a big question here.. Now i got a LG HDTV 50" Plasma with blu-ray but i have only Stereo system.. I got 2 Kenwood jl-717 with Sony STRDE197 amplifier. My question is.. Is it possible to add a cheap surround system 5.1 *Like 60-70$* with my stereo system.. Here what i think how to plug them.. From blu-ray RCA left-right to Sony stereo amplifier then optical out to surround system. What do you think?

If the BR player outputs both analog and digital at the same time then it would probably work but two completely different receivers powering completely different speakers would make for a "setup" nightmare. And what kind of a subwoofer and receiver would a $60-70 5.1 package have in it? I can't imagine what the whole thing would sound like. I know money's tight for everyone right now but my guess is sticking with the two channel system would be better than what you suggested.

I'd either add an in-expensive sub with speaker level inputs to your Sony and Kenwood speakers or wait until I could afford a completely new system. I'm sure that's not what you wanted to hear but that's what I would do.

Well, I did a search and couldn't find the jl-717's listed in english and Kenwood's site doesn't have them on their site at all so I wasn't aware of their size.

In any event, a dedicated subwoofer is a good idea for just about any speaker system. New movie tracks have an enormous amount of deep, deep bass in them and they could damage your speakers if the volume is too high or too distorted. Even with 12" woofers in them.
