I currently have a 1996 Yamaha receiver out there and two 4" bookshelf speakers. I want to buy 2 speakers, a little larger, and had a couple questions. I'm trying to figure out a cheap option.

    1) Is there any way to stream music to this receiver so I can play music from IHeartRadio, etc. ? What would I need to buy and what would it cost ?

    2) My other thought is to buy a cheap stereo receiver with Bluetooth.

    3) Another thought is to buy Bluetooth speakers and stream music thru those. Is that possible?

    Thanks for any opinions.

What do you use now to select and stream music? iOS device? Laptop! Something else?

I use my iPhone 6 and I also use the Fire HD10 tablet. The only Bluetooth speaker I have now is a Soundcore speaker.

I’d forget about Bluetooth, though it can be a fallback. I don’t know all brands, but most receivers have AirPlay, so you can direct anything you access with an iOS device to it, at better quality than Bluetooth.

Thanks. So just the receiver would need to have Airplay ? Do you have an answer to my first question ?

I wound up getting the Dayton Audio B652 Air speakers. They definitely live up to the excellent reviews I read. Very nice sound for a cheap speaker.

And I decided to forget about streaming music out there. I'm going to order a 3.5mm/dual RCA cable to hook up to the receiver and iPhone.

So let me get this straight. You nixed streaming over wifi via a pseudo-Chromecast puck because it appeared too complicated but were willing to buy a whole new set of speakers that cost 5x as much as that puck because they offered built in bluetooth.

Yeah it's your money buddy but it ain't "cheap" no more.

No. I did not buy Bluetooth speakers. And like my original post says, I wanted to buy 2 larger speakers.
