I find it strange that the spokesperson, CEO, lawyer, and web contact all have the same last name. [IMG] How many more news services will pick up this garbage?

The discovery of the latest perpetual motion machine is always good for worldwide distribution. Ahhh, the wonders of the internet.

maybe its just me, but something isnt right about that yahoo news article. maybe about the way its written? it doesnt appear to have any outside influences commenting on their invention, except for the last couple of sentences. it just seems like a 2 page advertisement for the company. plus, when was the last time you saw paragraphs that large on a fairly major news website? usually they are broken up in two or three sentence paragraphs. anyone else feel something thats wrong with this?

    from their website---

That's because it isn't a news article, Christ, it's a press release from Genesis World Energy. Yahoo store press releases for various companies they report on their business section.

I saw the last part of a report on these guys on the local news tonight. I didn't know what they were talking about till I read the attached links. I'll check the late news and respond on what I see.

I don't yet know the gimmick, but it seems that the licensing concept is the key element in this scam. Oops, sorry, the technology has not yet been debunked - yet.

Get a few naive third world governments to invest a few thousands of dollars, some utility companies to get a cheap license to keep the public off their back and these "visionaries" will take their money and run.

it ran on the principle that highly compressed air can ignite just as well as gasoline.

The story you just described fits perfectly into the urban legend template.

    I wish either:

    1) I had the guts to go through with a scam like this on the stupid people.

    2) People were not so stupid as to fall for this.

Besides the fact it takes an incredible amount of energy to break the Hydrogen / Oxygen bond, (which is why water is so stable), they are neglecting a key issue here:

They claim they can "re-assemble" the water molecule. But the Hydrogen and Oxygen are being used to produce the energy. SO HOW CAN THEY REASSEMBLE THEM????

    WTF.

Didn't see a repeat on the local news last night, but a story on the subject is on the front of the business page today.

The following is from today's eddition of The Idaho Statesman.
About the same as in the AP article except for comments from a representative from the Chamber of Commerce who says "It's incredibly interesting."

Idaho Power did not have a representative at the launch, but a representative said the technology was potentially revolutionary. "if this is legitimate, then it would revolutionize the energy industry," said Dennis Lopez, a spokesman for Idaho Power, after he perused the group's Web site ... Lopez said new ideas for generating electricity aren't uncommon and the utility's parent company, IdaCorp, has a division that is focused on developing fuel cell technology. "Our fuel cell division has a number of fuel cells being tested by the military and the other," said Lopez, but he added he isn't familar with anyone who has developed a process that uses colely water - and nothng elst - in a fuel cell. "using just water without any other resource would be a major breakthrough. I'm sure if they have a working model we could look at, I would assume any utility would be interested in seeing it."
    end of article.

I see a lot of people dancing without risking taking a negative position that would get them in trouble.

I would less like to see major new developments of energy sources than the continued utilization of computers to manage current use of energy with the resultant drop in consumption in the future. There will always be a search for the holy grail I guess.

Vince: I'll e-mail him that link...

And I supposed his story about a "Die Another Day"-Style Satellite tests being conducted are false too? He said about 15 years ago, he saw a lightning bolt hit a transformer on the street and that the electric company came and replaced it so quickly that they were obviously warned about it. Especially considering that it was apparently clear sky at the moment it occured.
