Channel level settings (1 Viewer)

I want to ask a question about channel level settings.
I would like to get a answer from someone who honestly knows the subject.
Is there really an advantage to setting the channel levels at or below 0 as opposed to setting them all the way up and adjusting them from there or is it just fashion?

If they are all the way up then you can't "adjust"--you can only turn them down.
