Setup:

Front L&R: Phase Technology PC 9.1
Center: Phase Technology PC 3.1
Receiver: Sony V333ES
Subwoofer: None

The 9.1's are rated down to 32 Hz (room boudaries extend this to the lower 20's). The 3.1 is rated to 38 Hz (considered a full range).

Heres the question: If I set all three front speakers to "large" in my receiver setup menu and have no subwoofer (.1), what happens to the bass in the LFE channel when listening to a Dolby Digital source. Is it sent to the front L & R, or is it a mono sound that goes to the center(if I set the center to large)? Basically, what happens to the ".1" when you don't have a subwoofer?

My center is on backorder, so I have not been able to experiment yet. But this qestion always intrigued me.

Conventional digital bass management dictates that if all speakers are set to Large, and the subwoofer is set to Off/No, the discrete LFE ".1" channel is sent to both mains.

I have never heard of the LFE signal being redirected to the center channel speaker in this configuration. It is assumed the mains have the most bass handling capability when you have no subwoofer.

Thank you for the reply. I may have been thinking of old Dolby Pro-Logic which I believe did send the bass (which was basically mono) to the center.
