Setting up speakers with my Marantz SR14 I cant get the center below 77db. The center is at -10, the lowest setting for the Marantz. I prevously set all my speakers at 75db, with the a/v at "00" calabrated with the Avia test tones. All the other speakers have no problem, most set at -7 or -8. Anyone have any ideas, or reason the center is out of wack? Iam using Avia test tones with a Radio shack meter. [IMG]

Because the sensitivity on the CC is higher than the other speakers is my guess, by more than 3dB.
Match at 77dB and go forward from there. Just remember you're 2dB above reference if the volume control reads in relative dB (-XX to +XX).

That is what I did, but with the Denon 4800 I did not need to, all balance at 75. The speakers are all a match, psb goldi to psb c-6i, made for each other. Wierd eh?

    Bruce,
Avia's test tones are set to calibrate at 85dB, not 75 (as would be the case with Video Essentials). That's why you're unable to get your CC lowered to 75dB.

Suggestion. While calibrating lower the gain (master volume) so the center is at 75db then bump the levels of the others back up to 75db with their individual controls.
Sorry if I am missing something here and you already tried that. [IMG]
