I "had" to trade in my three-year-old LG flip, so tiny and monochrome and simple (just the way I like things), for this newer LG flip, with a color screen and speaker phone feature and all this other BS... And now I just discovered a major glitch.

A pal said, "Didn't you get my voice mail?" And I was like, no...

Turns out my new phone has been hording voice mails and not telling me about them. 10 voice mail messages stored since I got the new phone, no "voice mail alert" icon, and -- even when I go into my phone options and turn the voice mail alert option to "on," no voice mail icon appears.

At this very moment I have THREE voice mails sitting off in the ether, and my phone is not telling me about them. I know they are there because I left them there last night. No "voice mail" icon. No blinky alert lights. Nothing!

My Satanic new phone doesn't want me to get my voice mails!

    Why is this happening? [IMG]

Micah, no "pal" should be leaving you a cell phone voice mail message! Tell him/her to quit that! Cell phone = business only!

I used the term "pal" loosely.

Sounds like a defect to me. I'd take it back to where I got it and request a replacement.

Took the phone back to Verizon, and tech support fixed the problem. I blocked text messaging (because... that's stupid), and that block somehow blocked the ability of the service to post voice mail alerts. So much for technology.

Anyway, happy me: now I'm bugged by voice mails all day.

One way to stop being bugged by voice mail is to change your message to something like:

    (In a serious voice):
"Cell Phone Abuse Hot Line, Sergeant Williams speaking. Is this an emergency trace?"

Good one, Jay, I'll have to remember that one for the next time I get those morons calling with blocked IDs who insist that I should not be answering my phone if I am the wrong number!
