I have just ordered an Onkyo HT-S760 6.1 Surround System. $475 for a receiver, center, sub, and two larger front surrounds, and three good sized rear surrounds. It should make a good starter kit.

The three rear speakers are going to have to go on the ceiling. Unfortunately Onkyo, in their infinite wisdom, didn't provide any back photos or mounting connection specifications. They did give size and weight: 7" wide x 11" high x 5" deep, 4 lbs.

Any suggestions on what to get?

I'd like to get something with fairly good quality.

Eventually I'll have money for real speakers (i.e. Energy Encore). I would like to avoid having to drill more holes in my ceiling when that day comes.

Fred,

I just purchased and installed the same system over the weekend. Sounds great. As for mounting the rear speakers, I used Vantage Point Satellite Speaker Mounts (black)Model: SATP-B. They hold up to 8 lbs, which does pretty well for the rear speakers. The Onkyo speakers that come with the system have a small bracket on the back for hanging flat on a wall with a single nail/screw. Pretty useless. I took that small bracket off and drilled the above speaker mounts into the speaker, then hung them on the wall. Seems to work well. The speaker mounts come with an extension if you want to mount to the ceiling. You can pick them up at Best Buy, Lowes or search the web for the best price. They also have another model bracket that will hold up to 25lbs if you wanted to have some room to grow for the next set of speakers.
