Ceiling fan causing subwoofer hum (1 Viewer)

Hey all,

I finally got my digital system (TEAC receiver and a KLH speaker system). I've been very happy with it for almost a month now, but it's started to get warmer, so we've turned the ceiling fan on. The sub (50-watt powered, connect to the sub out on the receiver) has started to hum intermittently, loud enough to distract from the action on screen.

Any ideas?

Try plugging the sub into a different outlet. It is probably on the same circuit as the fan.

Is the fan on a variable rate speed switch? If so, the problem may likely be the switch itself. Some people have the same problem with dimmer switches on lights.

Turn off the fan.
