Anybody watch the 2 hour documentary that Turner Classic Movies has been showing about Cecil B. DeMille? The program is a great history lesson of early Hollywood and the impact one of film's pioneers had on the industry.

I would love for TCM to show the restored 1922 version of The Ten Commandments. I remember seeing it one time in the early 90's on TNT or TBS, I forget which, but for an 80-year-old film it looked mighty impressive. I remember that it ran about a year or two after TNT's beautifully restored version of the 1926 version of Ben-Hur. But I wouldn't mind seeing the original Ten Commandments again.

Yet another superb documentary by Kevin Brownlow!

I really knew little about DeMille outside of a few titles of films and, of course, his remake of The Ten Commandments.

I'd really love to see more of his films, now... The Whispering Chorus and The King of Kings really look fantastic.

i have this tivo'd, but haven't watched it yet.

as a former paramount studios page, part of my responsibility was giving vip tours. i used to show people the "famous gates", cecil's office, and the "b-tank" -- which was where they filmed some of the water scenes from the ten commandments.

fun stuff ... i kind of miss walking around that studio.

[edit] - one of my biggest thrills was polishing the oscar for "wings" -- which (i think...i kinda forget now) was the first oscar ever given out for best pic. i do remember holding it and thinking to myself, "wow!".
