Cd Player only has output on one channel (1 Viewer)

Can someone tell me how to check the output of my CD player ( Sony 400 CD unit), as I only have sound in one side of the speakers? I have a test meter.

Is the problem confined to just one source (the CD player)? If you listen to another source does the problem persist? How about switching the left and right output (assuming you have it connected that way) of the CD player - does the problem exist in the same channel?
