Jack was responding to the poster who said that if Nichols could come out then there was hope for Switch. He was explaining to him why it wouldn't.

And as the poster who said that I do see his point. There is a separate issue affecting the likelihood of a 'Switch' release. But when so many were announcing the death knell of classic tv on dvd in 2010, having a show like 'Nichols' come out does present a glimmer of hope that while the market may be down it's still not out. Hopefully the economics of MOD will at least make some of these more obscure titles availabale for those who wish to see them.

Every studio operates differently and just because one studio does something that doesn't mean that another will follow. So, the posts of, well if this obscure show came out then certainly this more popular one should. It doesn't work that way. Warner has set up this model of issuing shows with limited commercial appeal on a burn on demand basis, thus limiting their exposure to potential loss. And with most shows they are releasing, there are existing decent transfers available so the cost outlay for them is very minimal. Luckily, when Ted Turner owned the MGM library, he had the entire TV catalogue remastered from 35mm and transferred to 1-inch tape. So everything that he at one time owned, there are beautiful transfers already done. Not so with many of the other studios. Apparently most of the (current) MGM library, formerly UA and Orion, also has been transfered. Not the case with CBS, Universal, Sony and certainly not Fox. So unless there's a sale somewhere, such as with Our Miss Brooks apparently to ME-TV, it's not going to happen.
