Well I hope that everyone is as happy as I am. Here is some info I found on the Animeondvd.com website:
BIG APPLE ANIME FEST 2002 HOSTS ENGLISH LANGUAGE WORLD PREMIERE OF
    COLUMBIA/TRI-STAR'S "COWBOY BEBOP: THE MOVIE"
Much Anticipated Film Debuts August 30th With Widely Popular Original
    English Voice Cast
New York, NY - The Big Apple Anime Fest 2002 (BAAF 2002) is proud to announce that the festival will premiere the theatrical English dub version of "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie" on August 30th, 8:00pm at Loews State Theater (Virgin Megastore) in New York City's Times Square. At the premiere, Cowboy Bebop director, Shinichiro Watanabe, score composer, Yoko Kanno and character designer Toshihiro Kawamoto will be on hand to meet their legions of fans. Cowboy Bebop is also currently an enormously popular animated TV show, currently seen in the U.S. on Cartoon Network. The show, which fuses compelling sci-fi elements with an amazing soundtrack, has been called one of the greatest Japanese anime imports ever. Cowboy Bebop fans have not only been eagerly anticipating the movie, but they also successfully lobbied to make sure that film included the original English-language voices they have come to know and love. Cowboy Bebop is scheduled for release by Columbia-TriStar Pictures in early 2003.
Cowboy Bebop takes place in outer space during the year 2071. Spike Spiegel, a former gangster and Jett Black, a former cop are a bounty hunting team who chase down the galaxy's toughest criminals for the price on their heads. Throughout their action-packed adventures, they are joined by Faye Valentine, a cool, confident, sexy gambler and Ed, a brilliant, teenage computer hacker. David Lucas is the voice of Spike Spiegel, Wendee Lee is Faye Valentine and Beau Billingsley is Jett Black.
Ryoko Maebayashi, Big Apple Anime Fest Coordinator, says she is thrilled to premiere Cowboy Bebop: The Movie at the 2002 festival. "Cowboy Bebop is one of the greatest anime shows to come out of Japan. The English language version will be a true event and we are proud that fans will be able to see this film first at BAAF 2002."
This is great news and is all I needed to hear right now too put me at ease. Of course, a release date and feature list would be great but that is just being supper picky right now [IMG]

I just can not wait...I just picked up two Cowboy Bebop dvds at anime expo and really enjoy this show, and the music is cool and really pushes the action in this show.

Wonder if there will be a LA showing of this. I saw Ghost in the Shell on the big screen and would love to see The Bebops crew on the big screen also.

You think the series was great. Wait til the "Knocking On Heaven's Door" Movie comes out.It puts the series to shame. I've seen the R2 release and the detail in the animation is superb, way beyond that of the series. It has new opening music with great tracks throughout the OVA (all the songs are in English), some with explicit lyrics. The story is great too. The OVA is 114 minutes long which surprised me, but hey more Bebop is good Bebop.

I don't think they can make bad Bebop.

I LOVE this series. I can't wait to own the movie.

Do yourself a favor a pick up some of the soundtracks.
There are four CD's for the series, a two disc for the
    movie and some re-mix stuff.

You can typically find a good price on EBay.

I only went for sealed music CD's for the Cowboy Bebop
with the Sonymay logo and a Japanese slip of paper over
the spine of the case that has the Japanese name of the CD.
The CD's are pressed and silk screened and full color
booklets. If they are bootleg's then they are very high
quality, it even has a registration card to fill out.

I do stay away from EBay anime DVD's. You HAVE to make
sure the disc in a Region 1 Pioneer disc. I only bought
Session 1 from EBay and I made sure before that it was a
    Pioneer version.

On a similar note, does anyone know what soundtrack
was in the "boxed set" for the special Region 1 release?

I would like to make one comment that I may be tarred and feathered for. Since I live close enough to new york to see this premiere I am excited that I will be able to see the english dub. I watched the series originally on cartoon network before I bought all the dvds so those voices to me are those of Jet, Spike and Faye no matter how many times I listen to the Japanese. The english cast did a great job acting instead of just reading a translation. I hate to say it but especially with Japanese it is hard to grasp all the subtle details of what is being said when you do not speak the language and this is one area where the extremely well made but rare dub has some advantages over subs. Of course I will listen to the Japanese when the r1 dvd arrives but I will still likely prefer the english.

I like to watch the first time in English.
Then the 2nd time in English with the subtitles.
(different words are used to try to convey an idea)
Then finally, watch in Japanese with the subtitles.
(at that point I know the story enough that I can
    appreciate the Japanese voice talent).

I look forward to the movie DVD.
Any chance for a Chicago showing?
(a small city that sits at the bottom of Lake Michigan)

Great news, glad it's finally hitting theaters. I hope a showing comes to the Massachusetts area, it'd be great to catch it in a theater.
Here's hoping the DVD is something special and not too far off.

Thanks for teaching me about the bootleg CD's.
I am surprised at the effort put into a bootleg!
I tend to think of bootleg CD's as burned CDR's
and a color copy of the insert front page only.

You can tell the bootleg DVD's are typically
offered in Japanese only and have English and
Chinese subtitles and are sold out of Taiwan.

I will try to watch out in the future.
(I should have known, the disc cost about $9 each)

Good rule of thumb: If it's a digipack (cardboard foldout) it's probably a bootleg

Also, the minimum you should be paying for a Japanese import CD is about $25, DVD about $30

So was there anything beyond some artwork and the box
that made the Perfect Sessions unique?

It was all 6 discs and the audio CD. The fact that it's in the box is what makes it so special.
