Ooh - a commentary. That'll be very interesting!

I'd love to know if Hooper recorded it before or after the movie hit screens...
Likely before- seems to me that most of the commentary tracks are done before the theatrical release.

I think most of these features are recorded before the movie's release. Extras on last year's Dark Phoenix featured cast and crew talking very highly of the script and production, and proud of what they'd done, as if it was a huge success. There was nothing that mentioned its box office stumble.

I agree that most are recorded pre-release, but even those recorded after release don't usually discuss failures. They still act like the movie's great even if it flops.

I do like the commentaries where we find out when they were recorded - and I've heard the odd one that came after release date and the participants mentioned the movie's negative reception...

Freddy Got Fingered gets my vote for the worst film ever made.
I'm glad Drew, who taught ET how to talk with Sesame Street, is no longer attached to that fella. nothing against him personally but he doesn't deserve her. (ok a little against him personally, just a little)

Page not found for 4K. I guess it will come soon. The movie looks like a blast!
Sadly, the 4K UHD release has been yanked on both sides of the pond. I was really looking forward to placing it on my 4K UHD shelf, next to Schindler's List.

Due to the pandemic I was way behind on disc purchases. I just picked this up from Target today. While the movie is a hot mess, the disc does have a superb audio mix.

I got a $3 off coupon from Vudu this week and with Cats 4K on sale for $9.99, I used my coupon to get it, and I finally got around to watching it tonight.

They've stretched the screenplay with dialogue to try to clear up the storyline for those not knowing what they were in for going in. They've made Macavity the villain of the story magically capturing potential choices for the Heavyside Layer so he would get selected, and they seem to have fiddled a bit with the running order of the numbers and, of course, dropped some songs. Like most movie musicals of stage shows, they've opened up the show to set numbers all over London and not just in the alley. While the visual variety might work, one begins to wonder where are all the people? London's a pretty crowded city.

Some of the star casting works fine (Ian McKellan was especially touching as Gus), but some of it is supremely awful (Rebel Wilson is the worst Jennyanydots I've ever seen or heard). I was NOT a fan of switching genders for Old Deuteronomy to accommodate Judi Dench in the part. Frankly, I'd rather have seen James Earl Jones do it (or Morgan Freeman or Derek Jacobi). I did think the actor/singer/dancers chosen for Munkustrap and Mr. Mistoffolees were excellent.

And knowing that it was shot with motion capture and other CGI, I wasn't sure how much of the dancing was really being done and how much was special effects. Adding the mice and cockroaches was silly.

Frankly, the next time I want to see Cats, I'll opt for that 1998 made-for-home video version. Overall, it's better sung, there is no distracting tail choreography or CGI fur, and, though it was filmed in segments and not in a single performance, gives a far better appearance of a show played in total.
