Two Di Caprio movies on the same day!
This might be old news, but I just found out that Catch Me If You Can (dir. Spielberg) is opening the same day as Gangs of New York. I'm looking forward to both of these films (and not just because LDC is in them). I was already planning to be at the theater that day, I guess I'll just be there a bit longer than I thought.
    Busy busy December...

I didn't realize that Gangs had an official release date.

I've never been a DiCaprio fan...but I've got to admit, he's got talent. He looks great in the Gangs of New York trailer...and I'm excited about both these films.

    Thx for the news, Vickie.

Catch Me If You Can is currently scheduled for a platform release (Oscar qualifier) with limited release on Christmas day to avoid having two DiCaprio films opening on the same day. Unless that changes, some cities might not get this one until after the holidays.

Wasn't Gangs supposed to come out this past Christmas? Guess they really want a Christmas season for this movie. I am looking forward to it though. Haven't heard a thing about Catch Me if You Can.

Ahhh, the site I went to, http://movies.yahoo.com/upcoming/bydate/2002_dec/, didn't list it as a limited, but did have others listed as limited (such as Spike Lee's The 25th Hour) so I just assumed that it was wide.

Look at this December list! (I'm really anxious to see the ones in bold, though I'll probably end up seeing just about all of them. Some I don't know enough about yet to say.)

    December 6, 2002
Adaptation (dir. Spike Jonze, Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep)
    • Analyze That (dir. Harold Ramis, De Niro, Crystal)

    December 11, 2002
Punch-Drunk Love (dir. PT Anderson, some guy, Emily Watson)

    December 13, 2002
    • The Chambermaid (dir. Wayne Wang, Jennifer Lopez, Ralph Fiennes)
    • Shanghai Knights (Jackie Chan, Owen Wilson)
    Solaris (dir. Soderbergh, George Clooney)
    • Star Trek: Nemesis (does anyone really need a list?)

    December 18, 2002
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (DUH!)

    December 20, 2002
    • The Antwone Fisher Story (directed by Denzel Washington)
    • Two Weeks Notice (Sandra Bullock, Hugh Grant)
    • The Wild Thornberrys (animated kid's movie)
    • Narc (limited) (Ray Liotta)

    December 25, 2002
Catch Me If You Can (dir. Spielberg, Di Caprio, Hanks)
    • Chicago (Zellwegger, Zeta-Jones, Gere)
Gangs of New York (dir. Scorsese, Di Caprio, Diaz, Day-Lewis)
Pinocchio (dir. Roberto Benigni, Nicoletta Braschi)
The 25th Hour (limited) (dir. Spike Lee, Edward Norton, Brian Cox, Rosario Dawson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Brittany Murphy, Anna Paquin)
About Schmidt (limited) (dir. Alexander Payne, Jack Nicholson, Hope Davis, Kathy Bates)
Spider (limited) (dir. David Cronenberg, Ralph Fiennes, Gabriel Byrne, Lynn Redgrave, Miranda Richardson)

    December 27, 2002
Max (John Cusack, Noah Taylor, Leelee Sobieski)
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (limited) (dir. George Clooney, Sam Rockwell, Drew Barrymore, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Rutger Hauer, Fred Savage)
Confidence (limited) (dir. James Foley, Edward Burns, Andy Garcia, Paul Giamatti, Dustin Hoffman, Rachel Weisz)
    • Gods and Generals (limited) (Bruce Boxleitner, Billy Campbell, Jeff Daniels, Robert DuVall, C. Thomas Howell, Mira Sorvino

Was Solaris confirmed for this year?
We get Gangs and TTT on 26th Dec, so I should have a busy day already (both being close to the 3hr mark each) - I don't need Catch Me If You Can into the fray. I'm going to be one happy film-goer though [IMG]

Wow, Solaris is moving fast. I thought it was scheduled for late 2003!!
Spielberg said in an interview ('Movie magazine' or something) that CMIYC will be very light-hearted (hence the title), and that viewers will think he made it as a sort of lark. These statements worry me. Spielberg may not be at the oscars after all. As far as predictions go, i'm betting Scorsese will get best director, as he's never won before. Who thinks LOTR: TTT will get nominated? I certainly hope so, BUT only 2 sequels have ever won or been nominated 9and both of them were Godfathers).

Very nice list there for December. A film lover who will be in a city where all those limited release films will be opening around the holidays will surely be in heaven. [IMG]

No problem Vickie. I knew you weren't dissing Trek.[IMG]
I think even non-fans will enjoy this Trek outing.
And BTW, I'll probably see almost all of those films you mentioned. This is turning out to be one hell of a good year so far and it looks as though it's only going to get better.[IMG]

There is an interesting article on today's Wall Street Journal about the two DiCaprio films potentially going head to head on Christmas day. Once again, DreamWorks and Miramax are feuding. DreamWorks claims that it got there first. But the article says that both films will suffer if they indeed open on the same day.

Currently, the score of Gangs of New York is being reworked and there is still a possibility that Miramax might release it in early December.

I saw the filming of one of the last scenes of CATCH ME IF YOU CAN in Quebec this summer. It was amazing to see Spielberg direct Tom Hanks and DiCaprio (of course I was a couple hundred meters away with my binoculars!)

The last scene looked very cool:

It happens at Christmas in France, with dozen of children singing a Xmas song, and a couple of police cars arresting Leonardo Dicaprio, and Tom Hanks getting out of one of the car. I guess, he does get caught after all!

I can't wait to see this movie. By the way, Leo looks totally different with all the weight he has gained.

This isn't even a contest, for me. If I have to make a choice between CMIYC and Gangs, it's going to be Gangs. I've waited for Gangs the way I waited for Eyes Wide Shut when it seemed like it was going to be delayed forever. Otherwise, that December list looks awesome.

did anyone happen to catch the trailer on entertainment tonight? [IMG] talk about unexpected turn for spielberg. this film looks to be very very fun, stylish, and has a sort of quirky atmosphere to it. however, the trailer hints at other more important subplots like the relationship between father and son(leonardo dicaprio and christopher walken). i can't begin to share my enthusiasm for this film. and is it just me, or was that last line a complete rip from minority report? ("you're gonna have to catch me")
