Is there any news on "Casino Royale" making its way to DVD? I was under the assumption that it would be available in Q4 of this year. I guess I was wrong!

As for the bad rap about the characters--hey, I've seen space operas that put their emphasis on human personalities and relationships. They're called "Star Trek" movies. Give me transparent underwater cities and vast hollow senatorial spheres any day. --Roger Ebert on The Phantom Menace

When most people think of Casino Royale, they think of the 1967 comedy edition with Peter Sellers and David Niven. I would very much like that 007 movie, but I also want the original "Bond, James Bond"...Barry Nelson(!), who played 007 in 1954(!), long before Sean Connery did Dr. No. Yes, 8 years prior to the first film, a TV show called "Climax!" presented a live broadcast of Nelson in the very first show based on the very first Ian Fleming spy novel.

Brentwood was going to bring this out on DVD a couple of years ago, but it "disappeared" around the same time MGM went after the rights for the 1967 Casino Royale and 1983's Never Say Never Again. Since they successfully got those rights away from Sony, then it's safe to say that smaller Brentwood doesn't have much of a chance. But I'd like to see this forgotten Bond presentation come to DVD, from any company, as long as it's done decently. Brentwood planned to put it with 3 other Bond-related shows, all behind-the-scenes and all-about stuff. More like supplements, really.
I hope we can see some great DVD's for both of these shows.
Anytime now. Just let me know. Please!

Wow - I didn't know about the '54 version! I'd like to have both to complete my Bond collection!

He thought on homeland, the big timber, the air thin and chill all the year long. Tulip poplars so big through the trunk they put you in mind of locomotives set on end. He thought of getting home and building him a cabin on Cold Mountain so high that not a soul but the nighthawks passing across the clouds in autumn could hear his sad cry. Of living a life so quiet he would not need ears. And if Ada would go with him, there might be the hope, so far off in the distance he did not even really see it, that in time his despair might be honed off to a point so fine and thin that it would be nearly the same as vanishing.

One hopes that MGM will soon come up with a deluxe edition containing both programs, assuming that they went after the rights on all the Bond material.
Call me weird, but I really like the Niven Casino Royale. Woody Allen is priceless, and the theme music is the clear model for Austin Powers.

    Casino Royale - Layer Change?
Can anybody tell me at what point the layer change in the 'MGM' release of "Casino Royale" takes place??
I have a copy which seems to be having a bit of playback troubles around chapter 19 through 21.
It will playback correctly on my computers DVD-ROM drive but my 18 month old RCA player freezes up.
This is the first DVD that I have purchased that I had not read about playback troubles on other players... before I experienced them.

The layer change occurs right after Le Chiffre (Orson Welles) is shot in the head by SMERSH and collapses as the equipment around him goes up in smoke.

I have the exact same problem. Chapter 19-20 goes crazy on my HTPC... I was going to exchange the dvd, but I guess I should test it on my regular dvd player before.

    Later.
