the 1952 Radio stage play would be fun, if just to hear Karloff do his thing. But that's just it, you really need to SEE the action and not just the audio of a feature like A&OL. The visuals are part and parciel to the caous of it!!
I'm sure some of it can be transfered to the "radio-ness" of it but as a bonus feature I'd love it!!
Some great behind the scenes pics!

Josephine Hull & Jean Adair were given a pass to recreate their roles on film (they shot right around the attack on Pearl Harbor in late 1941) but Karloff was not, as his comic role was such an audience pleaser that producers didn't want to lose him for the time he would have needed.
They probably could have shot his scenes in two weeks

Interesting fact: he left the show after a year and a half in June 1942 and was replaced by Erich Von Stroheim. I wonder if they changed the joke?
When Arsenic and Old Lace made its Broadway debut, a New York Times review said it was “so funny none of us will ever forget it.”

I was just looking into whether there was a Blu-ray of this or not after seeing it on TCM last month. Very disappointed to find out there's only an expensive OOP DVD.

When and/or if this ever gets a Blu-ray or 4K UHD release...

From the AFI catalog Great info! Grant got 160K and wanted 50K to go to Brit War relief! Check this out Although not cast in the film, Boris Karloff originated the role of "Jonathan" on the stage. According to modern sources, Karloff volunteered to stay with the play to appease Crouse and Lindsay, who were concerned that the loss of all of their stars at one time would hurt their ticket sales. Studio records indicate that Warner Bros. suggested Humphrey Bogart to Lindsay and Crouse as a possible stage replacement for Karloff, but apparently the deal was never pursued. During filming, Karloff signed an agreement allowing the use of his name and likeness in the picture, a legal matter that greatly concerned Warner Bros. executives.

Grant seemed to be a real class act he donated to the American Red Cross ensured agent got 10K etc - Lorre was pd 13K also check this out --- Modern sources note that a scene at the end of the story, in which "Mr. Witherspoon," played by Edward Everett Horton, becomes the aunts' last victim, was shot and included in preview prints of the film. Because of poor audience reaction to the screen demise of the popular character actor, however, the scene was removed from release prints.
