i have not been into car stereo's since i was 16. now at 23 i am a little out of the game. i just got a 2000 dodge intrepid and it is in major need of an upgrade. i have an alpine cd deck 3yrs old which has 2 sets of preamps and a rockford fosgate 2x75 amp 6 yrs old still working. I will be buying Kicker products because i can get them from a pal at dealer cost. i would like to keep the cost under a $1000. i need front, rear, sub, amps,.... anything you guys suggest please help

John,
I've been out of car audio for awhile also but here are some websites I have recently stumbled upon that may help answer some of your questions.
http://www.caraudioforum.com
http://www.carreview.com/portal^caraudiocrx.aspx
http://www.crutchfield.com
These should get you started.
It seems that more focus and money is being spent improving the front sound stage (much like HT) in car audio now.
A lot of what's talked about is amplified separates in the front with no rear deck speakers at all and a single amplified sub in the back.
I have found most Kicker products solid preformers in the past so I would say stick with them if you can still get at-cost prices.
HTH and good luck.
Brian
