Im using a dazzle (crappy I know) to capture from S-Video to Firewire into my PC. The S-Video signal is coming from my HD DirecTV tuner so the picture is as good as S-Video can look. Im recording the Sopranos so the captured image is anamorphic. I plan on "unsqueezing" to 16:9 in the DVD encoding step.

My question is... whats the best format to capture in? I have been using 720x480 NTSC... But I was wondering If perhaps I should be using square pixels or anamorphic? Im using premiere pro to capture....

Can anybody give their opionions?

thanks

Using Firewire the native video format is DV which is 720x480, so if you record a different format, it will have been converted from 720x480.

I'd capture DV, encode to MPEG, and burn to DVD. I'm not sure what you mean by unsqueezing to 16:9, it's already 16:9 anamorphic and ready to burn to a 16:9 anamorphic DVD. Unless you mean you intend to convert it to letterboxed 4:3 DVD.
