There is at least one major character we know of in this film who appeared for the first time in the show. Also, writers from the show are involved with the movie's script. I suspect there will be some references to events that occurred in it. I also found the show to be enjoyable, though I haven't been inclined to revisit it since it finished airing.

The Captain America movies even at the height of Marvel's popularity weren't great, and I certainly wouldn't count on a new movie.

I would respectfully but strongly disagree with that statement. Ten years later, The Winter Soldier especially stands out to me as remaining among the very best titles in the entire MCU canon. Civil War is pretty high up there too, although that feels more like an Avengers movie than a solo Captain America film despite the name.

Of course, the big difference between those films and this one is that the hero in the center of the story has changed. It is Captain America 4 but it is not Steve Rogers 4. So I would assume that a story focusing on Sam Wilson as the protagonist will necessarily have a different vibe than a Steve Rogers movie because Sam Wilson is a different and distinct character than his old friend.

Michael is of course entitled to his opinion on the quality of the films. But the importance of the previous Captain America films to Marvel cannot be overstated.

The Winter Soldier is the first film that formed the quartet of Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. They went on from Winter Soldier to oversee, essentially, three giant Avengers films. Civil War is Captain America 3 in name, but for all intents and purposes it is an Avengers crossover, followed by Infinity War and Endgame. Winter Soldier and Civil War launched this team into taking over the Avengers films from Joss Whedon after Age of Ultron.

The executives at Marvel know how important this team is. They proved it by shelling out $80 million to get the Russos back for Doomsday and Secret Wars. I don't know what McFeely is being paid to write them, but I would imagine he isn't coming cheap either.

Of course, that creative team is not working on Brave New World. I think the press and box office prognosticators will want to compare Brave New World to the previous Captain America titles. I understand that up to a point because it is the same franchise title. But this isn't like a fourth Thor film. Chris Hemsworth was still in that. This film is going to be Sam Wilson's film. That's fine. I think Sam is a great character and I am looking forward to seeing him lead. However, it does make comparisons to the previous Captain America films kind of difficult.

The only other time Marvel has pivoted to a different protagonist character within an existing brand is Wakanda Forever. That was obviously due to circumstances beyond anyone's control with the tragic and way too early passing of Chadwick Boseman.

We'll see in February if audiences are willing to embrace Sam as the lead of a film franchise in the same way that they did with Steve. I certainly hope s, though this will be coming out in a different and much more inconsistent era for the MCU than when Steve Rogers was the title character. It would help if the film is really good. Fingers crossed.

I can't say her previous work for Marvel has been particularly memorable for me, but then again I think Alan Silvestri coming back would have been the only composer who would have genuinely gotten me excited by name alone for this.
Henry Jackman would have been my preference.

I just saw the new trailer from D23 that has been leaked and I think it’s looking pretty damn cool.

FYI, if they eventually release this version of the trailer publicly there’s a big Red Hulk spoiler that they apparently are not trying to keep secret.

I was surprised when I saw Deadpool & Wolverine a few days ago that they didn't have a trailer for this. They'd supposedly revamped the trailer that's already released to remove the attempted-presidential-assassination scene, and were going to use that for D&W showings.

They showed it at my viewing.
