I've come across releases by at least three different companies, the most recent released on Jan. 6 according to one source. But newer isn't necessarily better, so does anyone know which DVD release has the best image quality, etc?

    Thanks!

Whatever you do DON'T get the Madacy release. They CUT the climactic last 12 minutes from Battle of Russia. Plus the quality sucks.

The set by Goodtimes has certain contrast problems but is far superior to the Madacy release. I have both.

I haven't seen the third version that fits onto only two disks.

I only know the Goodtimes set. The video quality is far from great, but it's watchable. In my opinion, it's easily worth its very low price.

Remember, these were made for the U.S. government during WWII and I'm not sure the original elements still exist. I use to have a complete set of these on 16mm film and they were duped from some used prints. I've never seen anything either on film, or vhs (haven't seen a DVD version yet) that looked any better. They're worth having, but don't expect too much in terms of quality.

Thanks, folks! I don't expect the world from these but as long as there are multiple releases I might as well seek out the best one. [IMG]

So we're down to Goodtimes or maybe the new 2-disc version...maybe someone who's seen this one will pop in.

The Goodtimes 4 disc set and the 2 disc set both end up costing about $12 so the price is a wash. Why don't you get the 2 disc set and let us know what you think? I've already done my duty by purchasing TWO sets......[IMG]
