...I am building a nice little HT system in my bedroom (live at home, go to college and work part time) and while I have the audio portion under control, the monitor is causing my no end of greif.

Here is the deal - 13' X 13'6 room, I will sit no closer than 7, 8 feet from the TV. Mainly for DVD's and PS2 - so HD quality stuff (no krapy analoge stuff)

I work in the industry so I can get some good prices, but my dream TV now is a 37" Sharp LCD (WAY too expensive), while not HD, the 37" Panasonic plasma seems affordable, but don't know if I want a plasma. The picture quality is great.

Some of the ~42" LCD projectors (DLP is out, rainbow effect drives me crazy) are nice, but don't want to worry about lamps.

Any idea what I should get? Seems I am in a spot where nothing much exsists for decent money.

I am in the same position.

Terrible. Who knew looking for a tv would be so annoying?

I saw a tv I really liked. Of course it was many, many thousands, so that was out of the question.

Even when I have a lot of money, I cant imagine ever paying $10,000-$30,000 for a tv. I think I would start to go into convulsions in the middle of the store.

The 37 inch Sharp looks like a nice one (Is it AQUAS?). It is pretty expensive.

One thing to think about? Do you play video games? If so, do you play a lot? If you play a lot of video games, you might want to avoid plasma. At least thats what everyone keeps telling me.

I have gotten so much information on tv's these past few months (much which completely contradicts the previous info), that it has all been really confusing.

DLP as you said is out. You have been effected by the Rainbow effect. I have never seen it yet, but have avoided one due to that. Some people also get headaches which would definately not work around here. We already have enough of those as it is.

Yeah - I'm not alone!

I don't play a LOT of video games, and I am the sort of person who would have the settings in a no-burn mode. However, hence my desire for a LCD.

I think I am going to wait a while.

Why not a direct view CRT, 34" (16x9) or 40" (3x2)? From 7-8 feet it would be great.

HUGE skip on a 4:3 TV.

If I am going to spend the cash, I want to go bigger than 34" This thing will do some traveling (moving and such) and needs to be reasonable. Also, it could go from my bedroom TV to TV in my new house/apartment in a few years.

I think a 37" plasma (price close for a ED) or LCD (still too much $$$) would be fine. I am still thinking about projectors (RP, not a FP)

I think I need to wait and see what the market will do coming into mid year 2005.

Thanks for the advice everyone!
