Will the pioneer 440 play PAL and NTSC?

I think NTSC only. I put in a SVCD in PAL resolution and I got a "rolling" screen.

You have to be specific. DO you want a player that CONVERTS PAL to NTSC or do you want a player that will PASS both PAL and NTSC

Hey Jeff - I kinda new to having to deal with NTSC/PAL. What's the difference between converting and passing the signals?

CONVERT- Takes a PAL signal and makes it into an NTSC one

so that normal US/Canada TVs can view it

PASS- Will pass the raw signal through the player, out to a TV w/o changing it at all. You must have a PAL capable TV in order to view it

In my experience most Pioneer players will PASS PAL, but will not convert

If you want good PAL/NTSC conversion you want the Malata N996 or the JVC model in the FAQ I wrote in the Regional DVD area.

Daewoo and APex players, while cheap, have horriffic PAL/NTSC conversion.

Thanks for the info, Jeff. I think I'll look into those JVC's...

    Daewoo 5700, Apex 5131. $99 and $129, respectively.
